randx0 Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 (edited) My kindly and loving wife called me from a local car show tell me about some models that were for sale.as she read the models off she said 70 baldwin motion chevelle,I scanned my memory banks and realized I hadn't heard of this one I asked what scale she said 1/25. my reply was really that sounds like all new tooling then(the snap kit is pretty decent)I would have figured it was a retool of the heavy chevy but since it clearly stated 1/25 I was willing to pay msrp .when it arrived in my hot little hands the jig was up the instruction sheet says 1/24 so it is a retool.it is a decent kit with the right parts mostly but this is the only situation I would have paid the asking price,I just thought well there's a new 1/25 nova coming out so why not a chevelle oh well I'm not disappointed with the kit just that it wasn't what I thought based on what the box told my wife. hvymtl Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 (edited) Well to jog my memory and to go open a box or two i can tell from looking at what you posted that the kit is different in the interior as the old heavy chevy has an interior bucket and this one has separate pieces . just my 2 cents. Now hopefully i can talk the wife into letting me get one so i can see how different the two are Michael Edited April 26, 2008 by hvymtl
KENNEDYJR Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I picked this up as soon as I found out it available. Building a B/M Chevelle has been on my to do list since Bill Coulter did some years back. This one looks good with the addition of a platform interior and great looking side pipes and the appropriate B/M gear. The only negative would be the lack of Crager wheels. Cant wait to build this one.
Roadkill2525 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Apperently SA hasn't picked up that it's a mistake.
larrygre Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 It's been said that no two Baldwin-Motion cars were alike. From all the photos I have seen of B-M cars (and fond memories of my friend Mitch's '69 B-M Nova), I must agree. So the lack of Cragars is not a mistake. Some had the factory five-spoke Magnum 500-style wheels and some had American Mags. Apparently R-M based the mods to the kit on the green B-M '70 Chevelle from the Otis Chandler collection featured in Randy Leffingwell's excellent book American Muscle. There aren't many documented '70 B-M Chevelles around besides that one. I have a full review of the kit, researched to the 9s, hopefully in the next issue.

IIRC, I read somewhere that the Otis Chandler car is the only known, documented '70 B-M Chevelle...kind of a 1 of 1 apparently. Too bad they didn't include the Cragars as an option, since ironically, IIRC, the yellow 'Custom Malibu' version of the Monogram 1:24th Chevelle from the early '80s had Cragars (and sidepipes).. Someone mentioned the fact the kit has Magnum 500 wheels, but Cragar decals I looked at the kit up close this weekend, one of my friends is building the model for a review...and sure enough, Cragar decals but Magnum 500 wheels. Oops...
modeltech Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 never the less its a much better kit then the other offers of the 70 chevelle!! mine is not done yet and is not correct, but in my mind i like it!!!

Oops... Actually, Bob, the wheels are Chevy's factory "approximation" of the Magnum 500. The wheels were available on Chevelles and Novas that year. Never seen them on Camaros.

Never seen them on Camaros. I've seen them on '69 Camaros, but not '70 1/2s.. the 1/25th ones in the AMT '69 Chevelle kit would be ok for the Revell '69 Nova or Camaro, I think.

Those wheels became a Camaro option around Sept. of 1969 when the model year was extended due to the auto workers union strike. You could order them on a Camaro from Sept.'69 to Feb. 1970, when the second generation Camaro was introduced. Edited July 8, 2008 by Lyle Willits

I remember seeing in one of my myriad piles of magazines a '69 non-RS with those wheels and the DX1 nose striping. Now THAT would be interesting. Ah well, time to dig out another Revell Camaro!

Nice looking build so far man..Love that yellow, it is really sharp.. Just looking at the great work you've done on the motor..couldn't help asking myself, if one of the resin guys will pop some of those intake manifolds...that looks awesome.....and I would buy a couple dozen of'em......easy....... .. I have this kit coming along with my first two Novas.....hmmm.....looks like I'll be swapping out parts before I know it...
