Marc Weller Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) It was great seeing the Barry Price collection in issue #201. Greg Sharp really did justice to the collection spending a tremendous amount of time finding supporting images for each model. I would like to clarify one point. Barry's shipping method did not adequately protect the models. While his Styrofoam fixtures were ingenious in design and well constructed, they were not up to the task of transoceanic shipping. The models were all damaged on arrival, some severely. As the go to "model guy" for the museum at that time, I was recruited to repair them !! So for an entire year, I showed up at the museum every couple of weeks to retrieve a few models and eventually they were all restored. Big Al was a nightmare as you might imagine !!! Anyway, the display is fabulous and is a must see for any modeler visiting Southern California. Marc Weller Edited July 4, 2016 by Marc Weller
tim boyd Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 For those that have not yet seen issue #201, Darryl's coverage of the NHRA Museum drag racing collection is a real highlight. Marc's info above adds significant information to the subject, and this must have been quite a project for him to repair each model after its overseas shipping. Thanks, Marc!!! My own belief is that we as model car hobbyists should pay more attention to subjects like these, including the International Model Car Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah, as they represent the best of our hobby and should serve as an inspiration to all of us. Daddyfink Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Doc, you are the perfect model ambassador for the Museum, thanks for your hard work! Jesse C.
Muncie Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Hey Marc,Every time I've been to the NHRA museum, the model cars have been one of the highlights. I also remember seeing some of your models on display as well, Always good stuff. It's one of those must see places in LA.
Marc Weller Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 Thanks guys, Unfortunately I have barely touched a model ever since !!! The new Revell Model A's may soon change that.
High octane Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I was hopin' to get to the NHRA Museum this year as I'll be out that way, except my better half booked us non-stop flights, and no stop in L.A. Oh well.
