Lowlife ! ! Posted July 20, 2016 Author Posted July 20, 2016 Thanks Jim glad your enjoying it !And thanks Chris, nice of you to comment ! Im just not into factory stock, its nice making it up as you go along, its like all my model spares are one big jigsaw, somewhere in there is the next bit to go on ! ! Now will you please get back to your funny car build ? Lol. !!
Lowlife ! ! Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) Thanks Dan ! Onto the suspension, as with a lot of my builds its all about the Look ! The front 350z fitted but had to have scratch built spindles to get it low enough. It was put together using a 1mm sheet underneath, so this is the height ! I had to scrap a little off the edge of the tyres but it fits now ! Edited July 22, 2016 by Lowlife ! !
Lowlife ! ! Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 As for the rear I tried something new. Its a scratch built swing arm system with hydraulics , it looks cool so its good enough for me ! Rear is a little higher, giving a tiny rake, With the engine mocked up I'm pleased how its coming along !
Lowlife ! ! Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) And a quick shot of the rolling chassis. Engine is in, scratch radiator, new intake etc and it sits level ! Notice the little tyre removal to get it to sit low enough Edited July 22, 2016 by Lowlife ! !
Lowlife ! ! Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) One more, I added the prop shaft and plumbed the rear hydraulics ! Both doors have been cut open now, more bodywork still to do..... Edited July 22, 2016 by Lowlife ! !
Modlbldr Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Very nice work. This is looking like a fun little build. Keep it coming!Later-
rsxse240 Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 I remember this from a long time ago! I wondered what ever happened with it. Glad to see it's getting more bench time!
superbike-shaun Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 wow Carl bout time you march on with this one,LOL this is so awesome! one thing though I would like to see is that trans painted in an aluminum or some sort of metallic just to break up the purple, lavender?.looks great Carl.
Rider Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Really digging this, some very creative building and messaging of parts going on here.
Lowlife ! ! Posted July 24, 2016 Author Posted July 24, 2016 Thanks Mike !And Tom glad your following this, let me know if you start your bug build eh ?Ken, glad you remembered it, I just got a bit burned out building , but I'm back on it now !!Always nice to hear from you Shaun, think the undersides done for now, I'm forever changing stuff on this as it is ! By the way, who's Carl ??And cheers Lloyd, glad you like it so far !
Lowlife ! ! Posted July 27, 2016 Author Posted July 27, 2016 Got a bit stuck with this for a while. The standard VW kit has the windscreen attaching to the bonnet (hood?) so you get no cowl panel . On my bug I want a different dash and windscreen, and also there's no real firewall as such ! I tried all sorts of things until finally I came up with this. Still mocked up, the floor is shortened 350Z, and the dash is from a 1994 Firebird, and it just matches the bug windscreen ! Think I might now chop the screen, and add some small panels for a firewall, but its getting there slowly ! Bodyworks coming along, I like the rear lights smoothed etc.... Its one colour anyway so easier to see how the shapes coming along. More soon....
Modlbldr Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Looking great! The primer does make it easier to see the.overall look of the.project. I doubt I'll be starting mine anytime soon. I've got WAY too many projects underway as it is. But, you have panted the seed. I'll keep watching.Later-
Randy D Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Hi Martin, That dash fits in there great. Really like your suspension work !!!Randy
