Jordan White Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 (edited) I just received a 427 big block engine from off Ebay, and so I decided that it would be time to start this project. Using the recent 1/12 Foose Camaro kit, along with the new engine and some parts from a vintage 1/12 Camaro kit, I will be building a 427 Yenko Camaro. I'm not going to be building it to "factory exact", but rather it will be built more like a clone or tribute. I plan on painting it Rally Green with the white stripes, and will be creating some Torque Thrust D wheels in Solidworks to be 3d printed. I'll be using the Eagle GT tires from the older kit, and even though they say they are 14" tires, I will be making the wheels 15" since the tires will fit them. Finally, I will be opening the doors and the trunklid, but I won't be building the inner trunk since I will be simply using it as a space to hold a battery to light up the headlights and running lights. It'll look similar to this: 427 engine parts: SAM_0206 by mudder_trucker8, on Flickr Edited August 8, 2017 by Jordan White
Kmb0319 Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 WOW!!! This looks amazing. I'll be watching closely
Jordan White Posted July 27, 2016 Author Posted July 27, 2016 Thanks! No pics yet, but I spent last night adapting the headers to fit on the big block.
stump Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Watching and waiting here too Jordan, looks like a beautiful car you've chosen to replicate. I'd be interested in seeing the wheels when you get them done too, I have a "stock" Yenko on the go at the moment. Another guy has made (3D) some similar wheels, but they're not exactly the same as these.... Any chance you could attempt some "period correct" Good Years in F60 and G60 ?? THAT, would look truly amazing.
Jordan White Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 Wheels are easy for me, tires on the other hand are out of my realm at this point in time! I hope to do some more work on the build tonight.
Jordan White Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) Here's a pic of what the wheels will look like! 2016-08-02_2119 by mudder_trucker8, on Flickr Edited August 8, 2017 by Jordan White
blunc Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 the center cap looks a little small compared to the actual photo.
Jordan White Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 Yup, looking at it again I see what you mean. Simple fix!
Jordan White Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 (edited) Finally have an update, got the wheels printed and put them in the wheels to check them out. blunc Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Nice job on the wheels. I want to find some like that only 1/8th scale, this may interest you: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Resin-1-8-Scale-American-Racing-Deep-Torq-Thrust-D-Wheels-Super-Wide-/320853220246?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276
Jordan White Posted August 8, 2017 Author Posted August 8, 2017 Quick update, I hope to have this back on the workbench soon! Here are the decals in their current stage, they were drawn up in Autocad and will be printed on white decal paper. Stripes2 by mudder_trucker8, on Flickr
Iroc crazy Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Exactly what I'm after I can only assume that the syc decals x2 are for the headrestsI'm envious of your talent we basically have the same ideas only you have the know how once it's doneYou should try to do a petition to Revell customer service and show them what they should have releasedDon't get me wrong z28's are rare But Yenko's are superior to the z28 I have another Camaro that's even more Rare Iroc z 1/8 let me tell you if you find one and it's reasonable BUY IT
Jordan White Posted August 8, 2017 Author Posted August 8, 2017 They are indeed for the headrests. As for the 1/8 IROC, I did in fact get one a while back. I plan on building it eventually, but not until I have a place where I have room to keep it once it's built.
Iroc crazy Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 I saw an idea that would solve that problem make a display table and use model kit turn tables Like what car dealerships have they have them for 1/8-1/12 sizes or build a trophy showcase with lightsThe Iroc you have is it molded maroon or black either one is rare but only seen one red
Jordan White Posted August 8, 2017 Author Posted August 8, 2017 It's the one molded in black. The display table would be nice, though maybe once I can get my own hobby room!
Iroc crazy Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Like I said that or find a large trophy display some you canLock and have recessed lighting I wonder if Plexiglas would be cheaper possibly a Little bit lighter than 40 I have the same problem showcasing mine BTW your Iroc does it have the little keys on the parts trees ones the ignition key and the door key I traded to get mine curious please don't be offended what you paid for yours I parted with a model worth $179 but worth it
Jordan White Posted August 8, 2017 Author Posted August 8, 2017 I believe it has the keys, but it's been a while since I've looked inside. As for price paid, I honestly don't remember, and ebay's purchase history only goes back 2 years for me.
Iroc crazy Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 (edited) That's OK I know there NOT cheap are you going to remove the z28 emblems and put The yenko emblems in its place I want to get the Replacement grille From shapeway you don't see too many of the RS style grille all the RS basically was a style Package I like it Edited August 8, 2017 by Iroc crazy
Jordan White Posted August 8, 2017 Author Posted August 8, 2017 Yup, I plan on changing out all the emblems, but am going to stick with the standard grille since I seem to prefer the open headlight look over the RS grille.
Iroc crazy Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 There's where we are going different paths I don't think finding RS taillights will be easy to find
