JollySipper Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Put this together over the last couple days...... Fun but tedious!
Harry P. Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Possible stupid question here... but is this the finished model? All in one color? White tires? Shouldn't the tires, seat, and handgrips be painted some color? I guess I can see an all-chrome frame fork, fenders, etc... but I think this model seriously needs some color added to it. Just one man's opinion...
Darren B Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Looks really good, I have like five of these, have always wanted to build one but you are right, I can see them being tedious just for the size of the thing. Looks really good built up..
JollySipper Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 Thank you Carl and Darren! Possible stupid question here... but is this the finished model? All in one color? White tires? Just one man's opinion... All the pieces were chrome except for the rim inserts. the tires, seat and grips were painted white, and I painted the frame gray........ I guess I should have picked more contrasting colors for something so small.......... Here's another pic that hopefully shows the scheme better.

I like it! now I have to get off my duff and get one going for some bed fodder, will look good in the bed of a truck. Or dio...
unclescott58 Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Don't let Harry get in your way of building models the way you like them. It's not my style of bicycle. But, I think you did a fine job on it. The second photo shows that more of work you did, than the first photo did. Looks good to me.
unclescott58 Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 By the way, at least Harry can't complain about your model lacking mirrors. One of favorite complaints of others models over the years.
JollySipper Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 Thank you, Scott! I'm glad you like it...... And don't worry about Harrys comment bothering me, a little derision never hurt anyone!
misterNNL Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 IMHO this is a little bland looking for a stingray style bike.Of course you could call it a "ghost rider"model I guess.
GT4494 Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Sorry to say but some of "older" modelers need to understand the new bike styles. yes I'm old but I understand styles have changed. much as "rat rods are the new hotrod (I hate them but..) the bike is in the new " low rider" style and looks great!
JollySipper Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 Thanks, guys...... IMHO this is a little bland looking for a stingray style bike.Of course you could call it a "ghost rider"model I guess. Actually my next project I've already named "Phantasm" and this will be displayed with it..........
misterNNL Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 As one of those"older"modelers you refer to,I do a fair amount of research when before starting any project. One of my current models ready for paint when we get back from vacation is a fully scratch built full custom low rider bike.I looked at a lot of custom builds on line to refine some details while planning and constructing this and saw a lot of gold plating. My opinion of this build was just that, just my opinion. My bike is in 1/25 scale, very long(almost 12 feet),has a hubless front wheel,Springer front end, brass knuckle handle grips, fully enclosed rear wheel and a few other surprises.Old(?),sure....but not necessarily out of touch with what's currently in style.

Now THAT sounds cool........ would you like to share pics? You can post them here if you'd like..........
misterNNL Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Right now we're on vacation so it will be a couple of weeks before I can do anything

But, I think you did a fine job on it. The second photo shows that more of work you did, than the first photo did. Looks good to me.Sorry if my comment came across as a put-down. It wasn't meant to be... I was just saying that in my opinion a little color would have been nice. The model itself is great, nicely built. Just looks a little bland to me, colorwise.
JollySipper Posted September 3, 2016 Author Posted September 3, 2016 That little bugger was 14 pieces.......! It would be difficult to take apart and redo, so I may try to locate another and make it more traditional colors.....
disabled modeler Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 I like it....i dig the little accessories the kits came with.
Darren B Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 I like it....i dig the little accessories the kits came with.I do too! I know it wont happen but I wish model manufactures would just issue the little accessories as a separate kit. Such as this bike, I have like three of them from the rivi kit, just to frail to work with. I have been inspired by this thread however to give it a go....

They make great diorama items too...been trying to collect stuff for 2 large diorama projects for years now...scale figures,dirt/mini bikes, camping items, gas station stuff, phone booth, etc. for them. I miss the late 60s annual kits...they were great..!

Just one man's opinion... I can see where your coming from here Harry, color would give a whole different look to this; although the style isn't to my taste; I have to give TJ full credit for building something off the grid - I could see going many different ways with this; when I see what some of the builders of the 1:1 lowrider bikes put into their creations ; it opens a whole 'nother chapter...... for those so inclined.
