removing decals

will micro sol remove decals without screwing up the paint?

It's possible. If the paint is acrylic or lacquer, though, there's a good chance it might be affected.

My three standard decal removal techniques are tape; soaking in water; scraping off with fingernail or a scraper made of plastic.

Regardless of what you do, you like likely mar the paint in some manner if the decals adhered well.  If you applied over a clear coat, you should be able to buff it out.  If you have a clear coat over the decal as well, it will be a lot messier.
