FordRodnKustom Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 I recently found this old Mopar engine while going through an old parts box. I was wondering does anyone know exactly what kit it came from? It is molded in light green and looks to me to be a JoHan piece? Thanks.
keyser Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) Johan 413 Cross-Ram. There's thread about them around here recently. They were in large Mopar kits, 61-64 for sure, I seem to recall the intake appeared in later years too, ?maybe 67 300? But factory was early 60's only. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/114668-chrysler-413-cross-ram-in-1962/ Edited September 11, 2016 by keyser Linkys
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) '62 Chrysler 300, optional induction system if I recall correctly, but I don't have one here to check. Other Johan Mopars had it too, I think.Johan molded quite a few in light green during that era. Edited September 11, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Force Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 This engine was used i several Jo-Han Chrysler 300 kits, the 63, 66, 67 and 68 at least.
Longbox55 Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Definitely JoHan, but pinning it down to the exact kit might be a little more tricky as they used that same engine assembly in several different kits, mostly different years and variants of the Chrysler 300. The color doesn't help much to pin it either, as JoHan was known for having the kits molded in whatever color was available.
FordRodnKustom Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 OK thanks. Y'all confirmed my suspicions about this cool mill's origins. My next question is if I were to restore this engine to stock what color would it be?
MrObsessive Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Most of those I've seen were painted black with the ram tubes painted red. Not sure if they were all done that way, but for a future build of mine ('61 Chrysler 300G) the block was painted black.

I was thinking that corporate greenish blue that some the B blocks came painted with. Good info.
426-Hemi Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Thats a Jo-Hans, Mopar 383 with the long Cross Ram intake! Was in the Imperial, and or the Dodge Dart, early 60's. I'd almost KILL for that motor LOL
FordRodnKustom Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Thanks again all. I'm not a big Mopar guy but with the info I got here I was able to quickly find a few color pics of the subject, Bill was right about the colors.
