Mr Stock Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) I've heard plenty of horror stories about this kit, but I have to be honest I really enjoyed building it, and it does need to be built ....it certainly doesn't snap together lol !. Body is prepainted out of the box, the rest I painted and detailed, no extras all straight from the box. In retrospect I should have wired the engine, but this was a quick easy build after the Corvette, and I'm happy with it. Edited September 11, 2016 by Mr Stock
gtx6970 Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Excellent,,,and I agree. this car gets a bad rap I'm not 100% sure it deserves.Once built it looks pretty good in the case. But I will say some Bare Metal Foil does wonders for it
CometMan Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Looks pretty nice to me, Gary! It represents an era of Mopars that, until Moebius released their '65 Plymouth, had been almost completely ignored since Johan disappeared.
High octane Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I have had one of those Coronets built up for quite awhile, and hoping to build a couple more in the future. However I'm also hoping to build a lot of car kits in the future as well. We'll see??? I just love dem Mopars!
Lovefordgalaxie Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 It really looks great. Like it was already said, some foil would make the car to look awesome. I really don't see all that need to wiring the engine. Is not like it's going to run or anything I only do it in special cases, when I'm in the mood to do so. If the body was prepainted I imagine it would be hard to get the exact same color, to do a primer and overspray underbody. One of the reasons I'm not into prepainted models. Half the fun goes away. Only have one, a AMT '58 Edsel. That one came all prepainted. Not only the body. If you want something that you can put together in an afternoon, just to relax, I recommend that Edsel.
DumpyDan Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Well done, I have one on my desk the only change I was going to make was using Chrysler factory mags. Beautiful work.
carman1 Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Looks good, I sorta forgot they made a hard top of this kit, Ive got 3 conv. in the stash
Snake45 Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Very, very nice indeed! I have one of these somewhere, I think it's red. I had no idea these could look so good out of the box. You're inspiring me to find that thing, drag it out of the Snakepit, and kick it through the goalposts! Well done and model on!
Mr Stock Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Thanks for all the very kind comments guys, I could have foiled it, but I really wanted this to be a quick and stress free build, however I may foil it down the line ?
AC Norton Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 boy, I like that....put that on my to buy list,,,,nice work, Gary.....the Ace...
shoopdog Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Looks great. I'd say your trim looks fine.
Ron Hamilton Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 That is very nice work. I have a few of the Polar Lights' '65 Coronet 500's in the stash. I started on one that was pearl white. I stripped the paint from it, and put it back in the box, as I do not know what color to paint it. Now that I have a '65 Satellite started, I have to find it, as I may do a set of bookend models. With a little patience and skill, they can be made to look quite nice.
gtx6970 Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Put some slicks on that bad boy and lets go racing. With a little bit of work they can be made into a very nice shelf piece
Mr Stock Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 2 very nice examples there Bill, I had great fun building this one, Ive heard it mentioned that the 64 GTO they also did has some body shape issues but Ive got one of those too do some day as well. Its about time Round 2 dusted the Coronet off and rereleased it .....I bet we see it next year !.
