noname Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 I was wondering if there are any manufacturers who make 1/24 motors or/ and parts? I know at times 1/25 bits will do the job. Such as larger 1/25 scale tires. But I think a lot of engine parts and suspension pieces will look out of scale going from 1/25-1/24. Most of the things I see lean toward 1/25. So if you want to convert a 1/24 compact car for example to a V8, is there options besides buying another 1/24 kit for the engine and drive train? Thanks
stitchdup Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Hobby design do engines and parts for tuners. Clearly scale have some 1/24 v8 engines that look nice
noname Posted October 15, 2016 Author Posted October 15, 2016 Thanks guys. I was actually looking for 50s-60s style American style V8 car parts. But If I do a tuner or need a modern V8 I definitely know where to go.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 (edited) There are several 1/24 kits of older American subjects that have pretty good engines. They're not wildly popular kits and can often be found for less $ than you'd pay for a 1/24 resin engine kit. Buying car-kits also gives you a lot of other bits. For instance, all the versions of the Monogram '39 Chevy have a decent blown big-block Chebby. The non-snap monogram 1/24 '57 Chevy has a decent small-block. There are several others. A lot of the older NASCAR kits are very cheap, are also in 1/24, and have a ton of usable parts. Edited October 15, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
oldcarfan Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 I don't order much on line so that leaves low on extra parts but most of the US resin manufacturers tend towards 1/25th. For spare parts, I go by Hobby Lobby and Michael's periodically for the clearance kits and will pick up cheap kits for parting out. I don't mind so much stealing the engine or wheels from a $6 kit the way I would a $30 one!
noname Posted October 17, 2016 Author Posted October 17, 2016 Thanks guys. I think you are right in that buying a cheaper 1/24 kit is the way to go. After a few kits I should have a collection of parts. Especially if you can get a 1/24 - 2 in 1 kit. Shipping with Ebay purchases can be costly but maybe worth if you get a really cheap kit.
