da_ashman Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) Hey Guys Always liked the SS-X concept & wanted to build one, but decied to make a few changes along the way. I'm not going for an accurate replica, but it will look similar & be more grunty!!!! Base kit is Revells Camaro SS, & ive got an old momogram Chevy NAStruck for parts. Wheels are undecided at this point, currently using AMT ZL1 wheels but am considering Plamoz's Corvette Cup wheels which are similar to those used on the SSX Racecar will be motivated by the old NAStruck's Engine, kinda the opposite of RestoModing.... putting an old engine into a newer car.... Interior is striped out racecar, I used the horizontal bars from the NAStruck & scratchbuilt the rest The exhaust is from the NAStruck too, which necessitated modifying the chassis & removal of the stock exhaust pins I Wanted to change the bonnet to incorporate a larger bulge & also really like the hood vents on Bumble Bee from Transformers 2 There's still so much to do, nothing in the photos is ready to be painted, lots of sanding ahead!!! Stay Tuned!! Ash Edited November 9, 2016 by da_ashman
slusher Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I like builds like this and your off on a strong start. I will be watching it come together friend...
mikemodeler Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I am liking this build but I have to admit I think that wing on the back looks like something right out of a Pep Boy's store.
Len Woodruff Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Love it. Looking forward to seeing more progress.
da_ashman Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 Hey Guys Its been a busy summer for me, managed to get 10 projects (mostly) painted up over my summer holiday, including this one! Heres a few pics of where Im at at the moment. Still not finished, I need to cleanup the edges of the black. I painted the body White, & decided to use the kit decal stripes as they had nice rounded corners & looked nicer than my masking effort, I did have to paint the roof strip however. Also painted the front lights area & around the rear lights similar to the 1:1. Also still needs a final Matte clearcoat Engine, brakes & roll cage where painted Chevy Engine Red I am liking the ZL1 wheels in black, yet to do a mockup so we'll see. More coming soon!! Ash
Canso65 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Nice job on your paint job Ash.I like where you are going with this.Rob
Gt fan Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 You need the wing mounts out of a porsche gt3 that was done by fujumi. They are the same ones. Great job on your build.
da_ashman Posted May 18, 2017 Author Posted May 18, 2017 Started working on this one again. The headers from the NASTRUCK engine interfered with seating the engine correctly, so I made new ones from Solder. Started work on mounting the engine in the right spot Since my last update, Ive clearcoated the body Matte using Alclads Matte Klear Kote, now just working on sorting the ride height. Slowly getting there, I'm gonna wire the distrupter & change the intake i think. Plus ive still got the interior to piece together. Stay tuned Ash
da_ashman Posted May 19, 2017 Author Posted May 19, 2017 Got a bit done last night. Pieced the interior together. Mounted the wired engine inplace & started working on the body, had a bit of an issue with the rear decklid decal lifting under the clearcoat, so ive had to touch it up, doesnt look too bad. Knew I shouldve painted it.... Hopefully finish her off over the weekend! Ash
da_ashman Posted May 24, 2017 Author Posted May 24, 2017 Been working on some of the finer details. Also got the body mounted, but now im unhappy with the rear ride height. sigh more modifying to do Hopefully I'll get stuck in tonight & get those rear wheels sitting where I want them Ash
om617 Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Nice project and looking good. This gen Camaro is growing on me.
da_ashman Posted May 31, 2017 Author Posted May 31, 2017 Spend a few hours last night fighting with the rear suspension & brakes but finally Im happy with the ride height. Now to clean her up & finish her off!!
