Hey everyone ,I purchased a California air ,air compressor model 5510se,used it just for a couple days but so far really impressed ,have an emglo that been using as a all around compressor for about 15 yrs , but the thing was just ear splitting when used in side,so bought the said compressor from home d for $136.00 ON SALE ,let me get the negatives out of way ,first off right off the bat the regulator was  junk didnt work properly called California air said they were shipping one out,i can still use compressor just regulator not shutting air off when you unhook from disconnect ,and if you try to mount a regulator combo watertrap type it wont fit unless you extend it out from the tank a little bit.that being said,,the compressor came plug and play,no leaks anywhere what so ever, and very quiet:):),dosent take long to recharge tank, holds pressure all night and then some, the thing I am going to change is the air tank drain,im going to extend it out ,liitle cumbersome all way under the tank, cant get over how quiet this is :) as you can tell very happy bout that.as to weather or not this compressor can do other choirs,,,,don't care I bought it JUST for my airbrushing, and the quietness.so I think for $136.00 THAT WAS a pretty good investment, for Me.hope this helps ,any questions about it just ask ,try to answer.

Thanks for the review. Do the California's have a good reputation? I'm looking for a new compressor with a tank as the one I have is tankless and I'm really not happy with it. With the great price I checked this model out. Unfortunately it's much too big for the space I'd need it to fit. It stinks because the smaller ones are significantly more expensive. I guess I'll just have to keep looking for the right one for me.

Great review, thanks for posting it!

Jersey Red, is there a Walmart near you? If so, check out their Campbell-Hausfeld. Under $100 and mine has done everything I've asked of it since I bought it in 2002. I've said many times that the day I brought this thing home and first used it was the single happiest day of my adult modeling life. Couldn't like it more!

Kind of big for me so I did a little research and found California Air Tools model 1P1060S.  It's a smaller unit.  Home Depot online out of stock for $108.00 with a Veterans discount $97.20.   I emailed California Air Toll to see if they'd price match.

Good info, I use a 3 gallon Craftsman air compressor and have a regulator and water trap on it. It does ok and has constant pressure.....

Thanks! This sounds very cool. I'll be going out near Walmart tomorrow and they're in stock so I'll pick one up then. I'm too psyched!

California Air Tools will match the Home Depot price - today only.  I guess I'll be buying a new compresor even though the old one works fine.  Just loud in a drywalled 10' x 20' room.

I remember I also had to buy something else with it at the same time--I think it was some kind of "accessory set" that I needed just for one fitting or adapter or something. IIRC the compressor comes with a regulator built in and I think I added the water trap I already had. I also had to use something or other from my old setup, a hose fitting or something.

So it's not 100% "plug and play" right out of the box, but I remember that I WAS able to get it up and running on the first day, without having to make another trip to any kind of store. I was also impressed that Campbell-Hausfeld had something like six "service stations" within an easy drive of me--not that I've ever needed anything fixed on it.

At this point, if the thing blew up tomorrow, I'd just go buy another one. It's given me almost 15 years of fabulous service for under $90. And last time I looked, today's price on the same model is actually LESS than I paid for mine in 2002. IMHO one of the last true bargains still available today (along with the Ontario USGI machete).

ETA: I think this is the model I have. If it's not, it's the current-day replacement:

Looks like CA tools is running a sale on their website this weekend. They have it with free shipping for $108. The video was actually a good side by side http://www.californiaairtools.com/ultra-quiet-oil-free-air-compressors/3-5-hp-air-compressor/cat-1p1060s/

I'll check it out when I pick it up tomorrow. It seems like it's just the compressor and nothing else from what I see on the website.
