Mr. Horsepower Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 OK, I've chosen the Northwind Super Stock to jump back into the hobby. Its a familiar kit should be a smooth build. Does anyone know if the body color is red or a candy red? The box makes it appear to be some shade of candy color, yet the only pictures I can find seem to be a gloss red. I apologize if this topic has already brought up, I just couldn't find anything.
6bblbird Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 More than likely, that car would be wearing it's original paint, Roman Red.( Ditzler paint code 70961. Model Car World #6309 )Stocker guys would rarely spend time and money repainting what was essentially a new car.WF

Mr. Horsepower Posted January 1, 2017 Author Posted January 1, 2017 Thanks guys! Roman Red it is then. I hope to post progress soon, cleaning all the flash on this kit is time consuming. I don't remember it being that bad with the Proffitt and Strickler models. I'm looking at the engine and wondering if the Revell 62 Impala's engine might be a better choice. Side by side they are almost identical, and the Revell has better detail.
mredjr Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 The original car was all Roman Red the gold was added later it was also red, black and white.
Mr. Horsepower Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 Quick update, Got the first two coats of red on the body and interior. Its not Roman Red but its close, the florescent light makes it look lighter than what it really is. Will wet sand this tomorrow and apply one more coat of red, then paint the inner fender wells semi gloss black. Decided to stay with the original motor due to exhaust fitment. The kit is coming along nicely but the flash is annoying, has anyone noticed this? The new Torq Thrust wheels in this kit are awesomely done, but they not correct for the building the super stock version according to the pictures. more to follow....
Rick Wolfe Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 Looking good there Chris, What color red did you use? I picked one up the other day for $10.00 still sealed at a swap meet a while ago, so watching this build. Keep up the good work. Rick
gtx6970 Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 (edited) I think when 1st started it was all red. the Gold came later. But I could be wrong. Ps, I think every picture I have of this car its wearing chrome reverse wheels,,,not torque thrusts Edited December 9, 2017 by gtx6970
Mr. Horsepower Posted January 7, 2017 Author Posted January 7, 2017 Thanks Rick! the paint I used was some pre-thinned stuff I bought from slixx many years ago called "Blue Blood." I actually bought it for the Reher Morrison pro stock. Its very close to Tamiya TS-49, just a bit darker. Thanks for the additional pictures GTX, I've never seen the car in just red. I plan to do the red and gold car, with chrome reverse wheels.
