Snake45 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Very, very nice, Walt! Why do these early RRs look so good in light yellow? That's the color I always think of them being, and the way I built mine when the kit first came out. I too made mine a 383 but used the engine from the MPC '69 Cuda. Was gonna post a pic of it but didn't want to step on your thread without your permission. Yours looks better.
geetee66 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Excellent build. Really great details and authenticity....and this was your 1st car?! You lucky devil. Mine was only a '61 Ford 105e (997cc).
carman1 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Very nice ! I like these Road Runners in yellow as well .
6bblbird Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 Great build -I wish I had a real one-love mopars !!!-do you still have the orange one-it's awesome? Yes, the Vitamin C, A-12 car is now a giant kit ( some assembly required).

Mine was only a '61 Ford 105e (997cc). Thank you.Yes, I saved all of my newspaper delivery money (remember paperboys?) and bought the car for $750.00 in 1971.My uncle was a sales manager at a Plymouth dealership so I got a good deal!
6bblbird Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 (edited) Very nice ! I like these Road Runners in yellow as well . This was absolutely not one of my favorite colors along with green! I did not have a whole lot of choice back then. True story: NY city cabs are all yellow. On a trip to Manhattan I had numerous people try to flag me down. Some even came over and grabbed the passenger side door handle trying to get in! It was not long after that I added the vinyl top and hood stripes! WF Went looking for pics of the green '68. Don't think I took any! I really hated that color! Edited January 23, 2017 by 6bblbird

satterwhite78 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I wouldn't be surprised if someone saw it cruising Woodward Ave....
Snake45 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 (edited) Please post the pic{s}!! Well, just since you invited me... And yes, I realize now that I put the horn on the wrong side of the radiator support.... Edited January 23, 2017 by Snake45
6bblbird Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 I like that one! Especially the dog dish caps. No, you have the horn in the exact right location. (The kit instructions tell you to mount it on the firewall!) One thing that a lot of people miss is the horn color. 1968's were black. After '68 they were lavender.

I'm going to build another one, making a few little improvements that I see now that the body needs. I think I can also now do a better job with the taillights. Can't decide whether to do it yellow again, or maybe go red this time. Either way, I'll be going with the kit Hemi this time, and probably the kit wheels too.
Snake45 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Nice work. Love the detailing under the hood. If you mean mine, thanks. The only added "details" under the hood are two pieces of thick wire for the heater hoses. Everything else is "just" paint, including the half-full washer reservoir. The thing took First Place in its class (Musclecars) at a fairly large contest at the time, competing against a couple dozen other entries, many of which had the full plumbed-and-wired treatment. I was pretty proud of that.
PorkChopPaws Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Love the color...what is the tech name for it?Nice build!
6bblbird Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 Love the color...what is the tech name for it?Nice build!Mine is Sunfire Yellow, Snake's is.......?
Snake45 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Mine is Sunfire Yellow, Snake's is.......?Mine's a homebrew blend of Testor Insignia Yellow (or Chrome Yellow, which is the same thing) and white. I'd have gone even lighter but found that more white started to turn the color a bit beige, not what I wanted at all. (About the same time, I did an AMT '66 Nova with the same mix.) Testor now has a nice light yellow in the small bottles, and that's what I'll be using for all light yellows from now on.
PorkChopPaws Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Thanks guys. I'm doing a 65 Malibu and I want to do it in that light Chevy yellow I saw all over SoCal as a teenager.

gasser59 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Nice work Walt. Love those late '60s Mopars. I have a '69 Roadrunner on my 'to-do' list.
tubbs Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 very nice build Walter, love the 1:1 also. my first muscle car was also a 68 runner I picked up after graduation in 78. had a grenaded 383 4 speed that i paid $400 for. we limped it home and replaced it with a 440. oh, those were the days.getting back to your build and the Keith Marked decals. i don't see your pie tin air cleaner, so i was wondering, I have a set of 68-70 road runner Keith Marks decals. it does not have the "383 road runner" pie tin nor the rear tail panel decal on it. is there a separate 1968 runner decal set? did you sand down the rear tail lights to make everything even? sorry for the late questions and conversation. haven't been here for a while and just saw the post.ps - my dream car is an A12 runner. would love to follow your build. waaaay back in 1988, sold a 69 hemi runner for the chance to buy a green ex/black int 440 6 bbl runner, the deal fell thru and i ended up getting my pro street runner, big financial loss, but happy with the pro street car.
6bblbird Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 If you would like to see pics of the A-12 restoration, go here: http://public.fotki.com/announcerguy/road-runner-restoration/Yes, I had to massage the tail lights before applying the decals. I don't recall the pie tin decal being on the sheet, but then again, my memory is not so hot.I do know that I always seem to have problems getting pie tin decals to lay down and not wrinkle. You have just reminded me to look for that car's air cleaner!
