ranma Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) Need to know if all the chassis and interior parts from the AMT '71 T-Bird would work on the Donnie Allison '71 Cyclone? If so I'd be like to trade the racing parts for the stock parts from the T-Bird kit. Edited February 3, 2017 by ranma
Rob Hall Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) No, two completely different, unrelated cars. The Revell '70 Torino kits would give the correct chassis and engine, and be a close start for the interior. Edited February 3, 2017 by Rob Hall
Mark Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 If you want a showroom stock Cyclone, get one of the Revell '70 Torino kits. The Torino and Cyclone are based on the same unit body, the Torino has the correct engine, and a lot of it fits very well considering the kits were engineered thirty years apart by different companies. The Torinos have separate door handles and side markers, the engine compartment is a good fit too. You'll have to do a bunch of work to convert the interior though. I'm working on one myself (using an original Cyclone interior) but I have seen another one done using a converted Torino interior.
Bill J Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) Missing Link Resin makes a 70 and 71 Cyclone street stock kit. Come with all correct interior parts, bumpers, grilles and really nice body. You have to have a Revell 70 Torino kit for the chassis, engine and chassis parts. It take a little work but would be a perfect street Cyclone, Keith Marks makes decals for both years also. Edited February 3, 2017 by Bill J
Mark Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 The Model King issue Cyclone includes stock Cyclone Spoiler decals for 1970 and 1971, and also has the stock wheels on the plated tree. I don't have the Round 2 Allison issue, but I understand the stock wheels aren't in that one.

fomocomav Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 You mean I can fix this one up? Not if you don't have the original hood. The Allison and Model King hoods are smooth, but there is a scoop on the original. And how bad is your tail panel? That cross hatch panel is not on the Allison car or Model King car, either, nor are the red tail lights included.
Sledsel Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 You mean I can fix this one up? No, you cannot fix that, it is beyond repair. You should just mail it to me so it is not cluttering your space. LOL
disabled modeler Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 I have pretty much the same problem Rama....I have one my dad had that needs a lot of parts and work. My dad owned a real one once very cool car.

LOL Believe it or not, I have already cleaned the beast up, and it is in primer and ready for paint. I was able to get a hood, and I have a set of styled steel wheels. For an engine, I am using the 428/C6 combination from an MPC '73 Cougar, as well as some other odds and ends from that kit which fit this one very well. I bought several of the '73 Cougars real cheap in order to fix up some more valuable MPC ('70 and '71) and Missing Link ('70) Cougars. At this point, I am not sure if I am going to do it a as a Cyclone GT or Cyclone Spoiler

Bill J Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Ron, not sure it matters much but the 428 is a FE Ford engine and the Cyclones had 385 Ford engines, like the 429 and 460. You could use a 351 small block. I don't think that the FE (332-428) was available in the 70-71 Cyclones.
disabled modeler Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 (edited) The one we owned was a 429ci, 4 speed car. Id love to restore the old model I have into it. Just have to find the parts to...same they cant re-issue these kits in factory stock. If anyone has anything for them please PM me if Ramma is not interested first in them. ranma Posted February 12, 2017 Author Posted February 12, 2017 Thanks for the input on this thread, But even though it won't be factory stock I did manage to get the 71 T-Bird chassis and interior to work for the cyclone. The T-Bird will go on to be used on the race car chassis along with the race car decals. And I did find out that a T-Bird was used for racing in '70 (see pic.)

That is cool Rick...plus it makes good use for the left overs from the T-bird kit.
