PARTSMARTY Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I just got my new Micro Mark catalog and seen that they offer a sand blaster for models.Has anyone used one or know anything about them.Looks pretty cool.
disabled modeler Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 I have not seen it but I can only imagine it would be for die-cast...?
glue fumes Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 If it is like my Badger air eraser, you can use it on plastic, if you use aluminum oxide as your media. Of course you use a low psi.Ron
tedd60 Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 (edited) Brass builders use them to clean solder joints. This one's expensive. There are cheaper ones out there, Badger, Harbor Freight, etc. Edited April 10, 2017 by tedd60
peteski Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 It is expensive because it also includes the housing to contain the blasting media. It does look useful but the clear dome is made from plasitc and I'm afraid that with time the blasting media will frost the inside making it hard to see what you're doing.I have the Badger mini sandblaster and it works well, but it is also a pain to deal with. But it is much less expensive than the Micro-mark unit.

redneckrigger Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 I have an industrial size blast cabinet that I use for auto and gun parts. I can blast paint off plastic, but using aluminum oxide and very low pressure air, and it also works well with sodium bicarbonate and low air pressure. Don't know about the cabinet I saw on Micro-Mark, as I thought the same thing about the dome. But it does work in premise.
vintagercr Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Looking at Harbour Freights website, I see you can buy a portable soda blaster. Good for 1:1 projects.
