I just got this Jimmy Flintstone body for a steal at the NNL east show for 2 bucks because the grill is slightly broken. I was wondering what I can use to glue it? Crazy glue? Or do I have to buy a special type of resin glue? And what do I need to clean up the body besides clearing out the flash from the casting? I've heard there is stuff on the body that needs to be taken off so the paint can stick. Thanks in advance for responses.

I have this body as well. If you haven't worked with resin, it is a little different than regular plastic. Before you do too much, be sure to wash the body thoroughly to remove any mold release. Other than that, get some medium viscosity super glue and probably a thing of kicker. There will be some pinholes and other things that will show up after the first coat of primer that will need to be dealt with.

I believe that 2 part epoxy, fast drying 5-minute cure, works well, and won't fog over any chrome or clear plastic like super glue will.
Maybe others will go more into removing mold release? I believe it's a little more involved than a hot soapy water wash. Or is it?

You need to remove the mold release agent from the body. If you don't remove it completely, you get all kinds of paint drama. I was told to use Westley's Bleche White tire sidewall cleaner. It definitely does the job. I soak it overnight in the stuff, and I haven't had a paint job on a resin model go south due to adhesion problem.

I see that you can't get that any more. <huff>

I'll have to let others make some suggestions, but it needs to be powerful enough to clean the oil off the resin, but not dissolve the resin itself. My gut feel is that a 50-50 mixture of denatured alcohol, and Windex will probably remove the mold release without affecting the resin.

I've been using epoxy to glue things, mostly because I have a lot of it on hand.

Some of the newer bodies I've gotten from JF have a very stubborn mold release on them. So, after you clean it, shoot it with primer before doing any bodywork. You will be able to tell if you got it all because the primer will not stick.
