Tough one this! B) Just about anything by Chuck Berry but my fave has to be:

You Cant catch Me

Women and Cadillacs by Doc Starks and the Nite riders(sounds like the KKK but I think the group were black RnB)

Transfusion, Nervous Norvus

Brand New Cadillac, Vince Taylor

Just how many versions of Hot Rod Lincoln were there? Anyone know?

An issue of Street Rodder did a feature on the car that inspired this song, was a few years back though, probably 20+

Dang, you all have some sweet choices, I like all of them.

I know, this is wierd and surprising from a 17 year old, but I LOVE anything from the 50's 60's, Blues, Bluegrass, 70's Rock (Jimi Hendrix, Gordon Lightfoot, etc.), classic rock (AC/DC, Boston, Led Zeppelin, Rush, George Thorogood, etc) and of course a couple hard rock.

"No Particular Place to Go" Chuck Berry

"Motor City" Neil Young

"Dead Man's Curve" Jan and Dean

"On the Road Again" Canned Heat

"Route 66" Asleep at the Wheel

"Hot Rod Lincoln" Commander Cody

"Rocket 88" Jackie and His Delta Cats Brentson

"GTO" Ronny and the Daytonas

"Drive my Car" Beatles

"Brand New Car" Rolling Stones

"Mustang Sally" I like Wilson Pickett's version

"Cadillac Ranch" The Boss!

"Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast" Airbourne

"Cars" Gary Newman

"Rag Top Delux" Molly Hatchet

"Lowrider" War

"Shut Down" "Little Duece Coupe" "409" Beach Boys

The Go-Gos Skidmarks on My Heart. ;)

Pretty much sums it up...

You sure know how to hurt a girl

Fewer hugs and no more kisses

Just water for your carburetor

And bearings for your pistons

Rev her engine for your pleasure

Caress and fondle her steering wheel

When you moan and hug her gear shift

Stop! Think how it makes me feel

CHORUS

Skidmarks on my heart

You've got me in fifth

You're burning rubber like my love

I'm driving in risk

Spend all your time and money

On that Pontiac GTO pile

Getting tired of your greasy antics

My pride's getting hurt by the mile

Blow her engine blow my mind

Keep her shocks and brakes aligned

I see that you're all jacked up

Leaving me and your exhaust behind

CHORUS

I buy you cologne

You want axle grease

You say get a mechanic

I say get a shrink

I need promises

You want Motor Trend

Our love needs an overhaul

This may be the end

CHORUS

Dirk: You're Brave. DJ-ing A Car Show With Such An Intimidating List Of Possible Songs To Play. Good Luck And More Power To You!

I'm Surprised Nobody's Thought Of This One: "Riding With Private Malone" by David Ball.

And Of Course There Are The One's That Have Been Said That Need To Be Said Again To Emphasize They're Importance:

"Hot Rod Lincoln" "Sweet Caroline" "Highway To Hell" "Fun Fun Fun" etc...

I Also Know Two Really Good Car Songs From A Guy Named Frankey Scott In Florida. "Model A Ford" and "Chopped Top Chevy", They're Rockabilly, And You Probably Can't Find Them On Limewire Or Anything Like That, But If You're Interested PM Me And I'll Send Them To You Somehow.

referring to Wilson Pickett's "Mustang Sally"

Great for sure, but have you ever heard Buddy Guy's? Yowza!

Great they are, but if you get a chance, check out the soundtrack from the movie "The Commitments". A primer on progression that builds like a freight train! Motown, done by Irish teens. The most amazing thing, to me, was that the actor/ singer was 16 when this was done. My vote for best fake bar band and my favorite soundtrack.

One of my all-time favorites was given away by Chevy dealers, I think it was 1967, at the new-car intro.

Paul Revere and the Raiders were starting to fade a bit, having outlived Dick Clark's 'Where the Action Is' aftrenoon TV gig, and were suddenly having to provide their own promotional efforts and tie-ins. One really good connection was with Chevrolet's ad agency, creating the Bowtie answer to all the Pontiac and GTO promo records that Jim Wangers had instigated across town.

The song was 'SS396' and was probably one of the best of the car songs ever, IMO. It described the car in detail, the details were described CORRECTLY, and the music itself was Killer. The song oversold the car's performance a bit, but we didn't care!

Also, look for a compilation cd 'Warmth of the Sun', which has a number of cool and obscure car and Beach Boys inspired songs. Good stuff!

I first heard about it in the early 90's on one of that HOT ROD magazine labeled cd's..

John

I have a disc with over ten versions of that song. Bill Kirchen and the Too Much Fun Band did a cool version where he imitates the style of several different famous bands and guitarists during the middle of the song. Everyone from Johnny Cash, Elvis, dick Dale, and even BB King and others. Kirchen played with Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen

Do not forget that the last song on the soundtrack for the movie "Beverly Hillbillies" is Hot Rod Lincoln, done by none other than Jim Varney. (knowhutImean?)

As for my favorites:

Mercury Blues (The REAL version. Rarely have I ever hated a song as much as I hate Alan Jackson's murdering of this song)

49 Mercury Blues- Brian Setzer

Cadillac Ranch - Springsteen

Silver Thunderbird- Marc Cohn

Many more, but most of my favorites have been named several times

There are so many Bruce Springsteen songs that mention cars, or or automotive-themed, that they could almost take up an entire thread by themselves!

...barefoot girl sittin' on the hood of a Dodge...

...Hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard...

...Now there's girls melting on the beach, and they're so fine but so out of reach, cause I'm stuck in traffic down, here on 53rd Street...

Now Sherry my love for you is real, but I didn't count on this package deal, and baby this car just ain't big enough for her and me...

and then there's "Wreck on the Highway"...

Hmmmm.................

Crosstown Traffic- Jimi Hendrix Experience

Feats Don't Fail Me Now- Little Feat

Brand New Cadillac- Liquorice John Death (Procol Harum under an assumed name)

Had My Hopes Up High

Johnny's Blues

Road Hawg

Boxcars

Lord of the Highway

Drivin' To The Poorhouse In A Limousine- all by Joe Ely

Hang On St. Christopher- a Tom Waits tune covered by the Bulletboys

Highway Star- Deep Purple

No Money Down- Chuck Berry

And I'm sure there's more, but these are off the top of my head.

...workin' all day in my daddy's garage, drivin' all night chasin' some mirage...

...I'm riding down Kingsley, figuring I'll get a drink,

Turn the radio up loud, so I don't have to think.

I take her to the floor, looking for a moment when the world seems right,

And I tear into the guts of something in the night...

...We drove eight hundred miles without seeing a cop, we got rock and roll music blasting off the T-top...
