Roadrunner Posted August 23, 2017 Author Posted August 23, 2017 This looks incredible! Thanks very much, Jeremy, that's nice to hear.
Roadrunner Posted August 23, 2017 Author Posted August 23, 2017 I've pretty much decided to go with these wheels (cannibalized from my '69 GTX), as they're already painted and ready to go.
Roadrunner Posted August 23, 2017 Author Posted August 23, 2017 Or perhaps these wheels from my '70 Challenger, I'm not real sure at this point. These still need to be "tweaked" a bit, but I don't see that as being a big problem. I'll use the same AMT tires as above.
espo Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 If you're putting it up for a vote I'd go with the factory Rally wheels but either would look good. Great looking body color and stripes.
Roadrunner Posted August 23, 2017 Author Posted August 23, 2017 If you're putting it up for a vote I'd go with the factory Rally wheels but either would look good. Great looking body color and stripes.I wasn't really, but I do appreciate the input, regardless. Picking the wheels will probably just come down to what's quicker for me. If I can get this knocked out in time, there's a show here (our annual invitational), on the 9th of September, and I'd really like to get it finished for that. The stripes you're referring to, are my Challenger that I offered up as a paint comparison, but I agree, I really like the color too. Thanks.
Roadrunner Posted August 24, 2017 Author Posted August 24, 2017 So, after wet sanding and polishing the paint a bit, I’ve now been able to squirt a good clear coat on the body. Far from perfect, I realize, but once wet sanded and polished, I believe it’ll be OK.
Arjay 396 Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 That looks just about as nice as your B5 Blue Challenger!
Roadrunner Posted August 25, 2017 Author Posted August 25, 2017 That looks just about as nice as your B5 Blue Challenger! Thanks very much, Roger. I'm hoping that if I really take my time, if not for the show here on the 9th, at least it'll be finished for the show in October... or should be.
gtx6970 Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 (edited) I vote (like my vote really matters ) the silver Rallye (the 5 spokes were not avail on a Hemi Cuda ) But I will say B5 looks good with B5 blue steel wheels and beanie hubcaps. Edited August 25, 2017 by gtx6970
Roadrunner Posted August 25, 2017 Author Posted August 25, 2017 I vote (like my vote really matters ) the silver Rallye (the 5 spokes were not avail on a Hemi Cuda ) But I will say B5 looks good with B5 blue steel wheels and beanie hubcaps.I certainly do value your opinion, Bill, absolutely. I've downloaded several 'Cuda photos, a few of which are hemi 'Cudas', and there are several inconsistencies amongst them; different wheels, some have black shaker scoops, some are silvery, hoods that are all black, hoods that are same as body color, etc. Since I'm in no way trying to duplicate a factory stock car, I feel that I have a certain amount of leeway with what I can attempt to depict, mostly based on what I think will look good, not necessarily on what will be correct.
gtx6970 Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 (edited) Agreed. There are numerous restoration mistakes out there. If you have any questions on what is replica stock. Ask away. Been a Mopar guy my entire adult life. And a former judge for the Mopar Nats. On a 1970 the shaker was argent silver (some early models in FE5 red were avail with red shakers. But that's the only exception. The 1971s the shaker was a dark argent (almost black ) As far as wheels. All Hemi Cudas were 15" wheels. The 5 spoke wheels were 14" only on a mopar. But that's the nice thing about models. We can build them any way desired. Edited August 29, 2017 by gtx6970
Roadrunner Posted August 26, 2017 Author Posted August 26, 2017 I'm not real thrilled about this; Revell has molded the upper shock connections, as part of the fender/interior bucket assembly (as it should be), but making it impossible to install the front shocks at this time. I guess I'll have to remember to add them later, or do without them altogether.
Roadrunner Posted August 29, 2017 Author Posted August 29, 2017 And the wet sanding/polishing has commenced. I've already sanded through in a couple of places (I always do), but they should be fairly easy touch-ups, I hope. I'll probably end up going with a satin black hood, and I think that'll look OK.
Arjay 396 Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 I'll probably end up going with a satin black hood, and I think that'll look OK. You mean the entire hood or just the shaker scoop? It'd be a shame to cover up all that beautiful B5 Blue......
Roadrunner Posted August 29, 2017 Author Posted August 29, 2017 You mean the entire hood or just the shaker scoop? It'd be a shame to cover up all that beautiful B5 Blue......Entire hood, or at least that's my tentative thinking. Shaker scoop will be silver, so I'm not 100% sure about the black hood, but am definitely considering it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I've always love the aar and probably be my second car I'd buy after winning the lottery. Right behind a demon or hellcat. I do love this paint job you've done. It has amazing dimension.

It has amazing dimension. Both the AAR 'Cuda and the Challenger T/A had a flat black hood that also included the tops of the fenders as well as the top of the doors. The model is looking sweet...awesome color choice! Personally I would leave the hood blue with an argent Shaker scoop.....
dieseldog1970 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 My bad! Only the AAR 'Cuda had the flat black fender and top of the doors, Challenger T/A only had a flat black hood!!
Mr mopar Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 The Shaker could be Semi black or silver !
Roadrunner Posted September 1, 2017 Author Posted September 1, 2017 Both the AAR 'Cuda and the Challenger T/A had a flat black hood that also included the tops of the fenders as well as the top of the doors. The model is looking sweet...awesome color choice! Personally I would leave the hood blue with an argent Shaker scoop.....I'm sort of leaning toward the same thing myself now, Blue hood, silver shaker, or perhaps black shaker, have yet to figure that out. Thanks for the inputs and support, fellas, it helps a lot.
Arjay 396 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 My refs indicate that the shaker scoop would be argent on a B5 Blue 'Cuda.
moparfarmer Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 By "other wheel" are you referring to the Magnum 500 rim?IIRC when a buyer ordered a 'Cuda with the Hemi option, 15-inch wheels came along for the ride. Standard were the black, 6-slot "police" wheels with dog-dish hubcaps OR the 15x7 rallye rim. Chrysler never offered the Magnum 500 type in a 15-inch diameter (as Ford did) so they'd be inappropriate for a stock Hemi Cuda. The steel wheels were four holes and not the "police" rims..They came later in the 70's with police special Gran Furys and Dodge Coronets..Were big on the Diplomat police cars..Standard 15"rim came in 1970
gtx6970 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 the aar Cuda had the black hood and if I recall the top of the fenders next to the hood too. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Correct, Top of fenders, , header panel and along the top edge of the doors / quarter window openings as well Challenger TA is the hood only
Plastic_Passion Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Correct, Top of fenders, , header panel and along the top edge of the doors / quarter window openings as well Challenger TA is the hood only sweet I'll have to remember to go all the way to the quarter window when I get around to that. I didn't realize it went all the way back.
Roadrunner Posted September 2, 2017 Author Posted September 2, 2017 Interesting info about the AAR 'Cuda. Does anyone make a decent kit of the AAR? I don't recall having seen one before.
