vamach1 Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 (edited) So here is a slighly modified original kit. I added the shock tower brace, air cleaner and extra decals from Keith Marks. I tired to use deals for the narrow stripe outline on the hood but gave up. Main disappointment with the kit is the engine and compartment. The firewall sits too far back and the radiator is too far forward. i assembled it as is but the next one I will experiment with moving them. The 428 engine is not a 429 and never will be. I actually used the 351 decal on the air cleaner but the 429 ram air decal on th hood so al three are incorrect. I built this to learn all the things that annoy me in order to build a more realistic one next time. I have numerous resin parts that I will add to a more detailed version with a correct 351C or 429CJ. I will also NOT paint the Mach1 molded in letters and sand them off as they are very hard to paint. I am disappointed in the trunk Mach1 decal on the Keith Marks sheet as it is not even close to what it looks like on the real car. Anyway, enjoy it nonetheless. Next up is the MPC kit to do either a Boss or Mach1. Edited September 30, 2017 by vamach1 111
vamach1 Posted September 30, 2017 Author Posted September 30, 2017 (edited) Two other comments. The mounting points for the rear spoiler are way off and should be a lot further out. Also the mounts need to be shortened by at least one third. I also added the metal exhaust tips and cut out the transverse muffler. Edited September 30, 2017 by vamach1
Ron Hamilton Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 Rex,I appreciate the knowledge you have on the Mustang, as well as the interesting builds I have seen you do. I am about to revisit my Mach I. You will get a kick out of what I plan to do with it.
Jaguar man 21 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 That's one good looking model, the 1:1 isn't bad either! Very nice
vamach1 Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 That's one good looking model, the 1:1 isn't bad either! Very nice Thanks. I have owned the 72 Mach1 since 1981.
Snake45 Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Looks like you did about as well as can be done with that kit without major rework. I've got one I've taken out and put away many times. I know it needs fixes of various kinds, but I'm not sharp enough on '71-'73 Mustangs to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it. But maybe someday....
webestang Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Nice build! Love that color! And I really LOVE your 1:1 Pony........
