martinfan5 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Now that kit is out, lets take a look's see
aurfalien Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 (edited) Hi,Wow, nice review and very nice kit! It's interesting how the grey sprue has a silvery sheen to it. The brakes look like the shoes are darker then the rotors. This is very interesting.Nice decals as well. This seems like a Fujimi model production doesn't it. Edited October 11, 2017 by aurfalien

You know, kind of yes, its not as crisp of molding as we are used too from the other guys, and does have that Fujimi-ess feeling to it. But it still looks like a nice kit and I am cant wait to get it built. Edited October 11, 2017 by martinfan5
tmathew1us Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 The type face and color chart certainly look like Fujimi. Is this a new company?
Jhedir6 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 The type face and color chart certainly look like Fujimi. Is this a new company?NuNu or Platz is its own company as far as I know. Pretty sure they mostly do military stuff like Meng. After watching the video I completely agree it looks like Fujimi quality, which is fine by me. The parts look crisp and pretty much flash free. Maybe not as sharp looking as a Tamiya kit, but Tamiya is pretty much the gold standard, not many kits match up to a Tamiya kit. I think NuNu has done a great job on this kit. From what I've seen in Jonathan's video there are only a few things that jump out at me, first the chassis pan, they didnt mold in the jack points...not a big issue since most people with display in on all fours anyway. Second, the wipers are pretty thick looking, but if I remember right I saw a PE set in the detail up set for this kit so if you ordered a PE set, it's not an issue. Lastly, the tires. the staggered tires look terrible. Very unrealistic looking. I'm sure I'll find a set in my parts box to replace them. Other than these few things, I think the kit looks to be a home run. The only other complaint is the time it's taken them to actually get this thing out...its 12 months since they originally stated it would be to market. I hope the kit sells well for them and NuNu decides to do another GT release. No one is doing the current Audi R8 in kit for and I think that would make a perfect runner up to the BMW. There are many teams in the Blancpain and IMSA and WEC running R8s so a kit would be of one would be great. Thanks for the video Jonathan, I still cant believe mine has yet to ship.....totally amazed that Mark at MShobbies in the US has them before the Japanese big distributors. Oh well I've been waiting for a year already another week or so isnt going to kill me. Looking forward to your WiP.David

Oh well I've been waiting for a year already another week or so isnt going to kill me. Looking forward to your WiP.DavidNuNu and Platz are two entirely separate companies. One based in Hong Kong, the other in Japan, again Platz is just the Japanese distributor for this kit - along with any further ones as the box does say "Race Car Series No. 1" on the end cap which to me touts there would be a No. 2 and so on. Perhaps they'll update the body to the Evo ground effects the 2018 car is going to get. Also it's not Fujimi quality, it's Beemax quality since they're the ones that actually did the kit itself - all of the parts runners are stamped "Macau 2017" on them, along with them piggy-backing Beemax's BMW licensing, which itself was the cause of about 4 or 5 months of the delay involved in getting the kit out.The one thing I've noticed now that I've had a chance to go through the kit is that unless you have the P/E set you don't have any of the front fender canards, tow straps, or driver safety netting. There are no kit parts that represent the P/E pieces other than the wipers (and the molded on slam locks on the body). Getting the front canards on, considering the microscopic amount of P/E you have at the bend point to attach to a perfectly smooth body (there are no divots or anything since there are no kit parts of them) is going to be tantamount to defusing a nuclear warhead in a bad action flick, as they'll have to go on after the kit is completely painted and assembled. The Carbon Fiber is a bright silver which might look O.K. on the chassis pan itself, but is wildly brighter than the C/F used on the rest of the car. All three sheets of decals have the same exact C/F pattern in the same color. Although if nothing else they'd make good templates for replacement, or just dousing them in Tamiya Smoke once installed to tone the color down will probably work as well.
