Alix Bernard Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 I know there are some hardcore stocker builders on here so I need to pick some brains. A friend gave me this. I build mostly drag stuff so I was going to cut this up and make a full bodied digger(Revellion etc.). Missing some stuff, rear bumper, roof, chrome thingies on the front fenders. Interesting sales stuff on the chassis. Looked on the Bay and found no sedan model kits. What do you guys think....dragster or stocker ?
Ron Hamilton Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 (edited) To me, it is beyond saving. I am a replica stock builder for the most part, and if it were mine, I would make a drag car out of it. OI happen to like first edition Ford Falcons. I would shave the chrome mouldings from it, but keep the body sculpture, and combine it with one of AMT's '65 Falcon Gasser model kits, and do a period car, For the roof, the one from the '65 Falcon will work nicely, and give it sort of a '63 Falcon Sprint vibe. It would be quite unique. Edited October 27, 2017 by Ron Hamilton
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 I'm with Ron. He has a good plan.In the condition she's in, she's not worth much.I recently bought a clean, semi-virgin '61 Falcon kit, in a good box, with decals and instructions, for $62.
Alix Bernard Posted October 27, 2017 Author Posted October 27, 2017 Thanks Ron and Bill. That helps!!!
Ron Hamilton Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 I happen to like Falcons myself, and I have a few of them in the to do pile. I have a '61 sedan to do, It's been started where I removed the supposed body sculpture mouldings, removed the ill placed mould lines, and replaced the mouldings with half-round styrene strip. It is in primer now. I have to find a period color other than red to paint it. I can hear that little six buzzing away. I may do it up like this.
Dawson Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 I wonder if the readily available AMT 1960 Falcon Ranchero would be a good donor for a few of your missing or broken parts .
ChrisBcritter Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 You're about at the point of no return with it now; might just as well do it as a topless funny car since you already have that nice big hole for the drag chute. '61 kits do turn up now and then as builders; main difference is that they don't have the front fender ornaments. That said, '61 coupes in resin are showing up on eBay now; one of those bodies (plus a back window and rear bumper, sourced from a warped '60) would be all you need to restore this car.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 I wonder if the readily available AMT 1960 Falcon Ranchero would be a good donor for a few of your missing or broken parts . Most definitely a viable option. Another option...I recently found a wagon roof in resin for the Falcon. Not a bad part but slightly warped. And I have no idea who made (makes) it. Also got a 2-door sedan roof...
1930fordpickup Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Make a speedster out of it. Rear bumper is the same as the Ranchero.

Once I get the problems straightened out with this thing (it's twisted, has some pinholes, and a significant dip in the middle of the roof panel) I MAY make molds and cast a few. It's a great way to turn the readily available Falcon Ranchero kit into something interesting. Stay tuned... Edited October 27, 2017 by Ace-Garageguy

Snake45 Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Make a speedster out of it. Rear bumper is the same as the Ranchero. I was going to suggest grafting on another roof of some kind (early Mustang fastback?) and making it a factory custom/show car, but I think I like the speedster idea even more!

There is an idea....its too far gone to repair to factory stock like it is....maybe some kind of wild drag car or something..?
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 There is an idea....its too far gone to repair to factory stock like it is....maybe some kind of wild drag car or something..? Jack Chrisman's Big Red (a Comet, but you could certainly do a Falcon)...
Snake45 Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Jack Chrisman's Big Red (a Comet, but you could certainly do a Falcon)... There was at least one topless first-gen Nova, and a topless '65 Chevelle I know of

PARTSMARTY Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 That's a challenge I wish I had.I wouldn't give up on it.Whether sedan-wagon or convertible I'd restore it in stock configuration. It may not be of great value but far from gone.
