Bucky Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 I have a 'gluebomb" I'm working on that was brush painted with gold paint. It's a '67 Cougar body, probably painted way back when!!While doing the cut work on this body, I kept noticing my fingers keep sticking to the paint, and it ain't 'cause I got grape jelly on 'em!!HAHAHAI don't see any signs of primer under the gold, and the silver on the inside of the body isn't sticky. Have you guys got any ideas about what causes the stickiness?
Tom Geiger Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 It must be the kind of paint used. Any Testors, Pacta paints may have been sticky for awhile but eventually would've dried. Strip it
Snake45 Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Testor old-school chrome silver was infamous for never fully drying. Looks like gold was the same way.Strip it and start over.
Bucky Posted November 9, 2017 Author Posted November 9, 2017 I will definitely strip it. This is the first one I can remember that was sticky. I got a gluebomb Dodge one time that had yellow paint that was about a mile thick. Two weeks in the brake fluid was required for that one. I usually don't have to wait that long with the brake fluid! LOL
Lunajammer Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 Yeah, I brush painted a 65 Chevelle wagon with Testors gold back in the 70s, it too never really dried. Early on I played with it and handled it a lot so it got tarnished and gross. Still have it though.
