RowdyYates Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Is it possible to build a 61' Starliner using the AMT 61' Styline kit with a 60' Starliner roof and and add fins to the rear guarters, change the grill, etc?. I realize Modelhaus offers the 61' Starliner kit, but can one be scratch built?. Rowdy
Jairus Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Yes. Simplest method would be to use the '60 Starliner roof, cowl and a bit of "meat" around all four posts.... then transplant that to the '61 body. That is what I did. I assume that you are trying to attain the highest level of detail.... so the AMT '60 chassis could then be swapped with the simplistic '61 with a little modification, like cutting open the hood, adding grille supports and.... anything I forgot to mention...
RowdyYates Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 This is a project that I will have 15 months to build, plenty of time to do the mods. It's a birthday gift for my Father-In-Law who owned a 61' Starliner that was primer gray with Holman-Moody wheels, front bucket seats, no rear seat, racing seat belts, no carpet. You might say is was a street version of a H-M stocker. It will be a shelf build however I do want to achieve as much accurate detailing as possible. I have the 60' Starliner kit for donor and the 61 Styline kit.Time to get a few more Ford books on the 61' Starliner. Thanks again Jairus! Yates
Jairus Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 This is a teaser for an up coming article in Model Cars Magazine. (Don't let Gregg see this....)
RowdyYates Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 NICE!. You gotta be the coolest dude on this forum! Thanks for sharing the pics. They are very helpful. Can't wait for the issue of MCM on this build! Yates
Fabrux Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Old thread, I know, but I was wondering if these pictures are still around somewhere?
Jairus Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I have no idea what those were. New forum, new format so the name of the pics don't show for me. But here are the key pics from the article.
Fabrux Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Thank you very much, Jairus! I'm hoping to build both a 61 Starliner and a 60 Club Sedan...
Chuck Most Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 For those less adventurous, Modelhaus sells a '61 Starliner transkit that uses the AMT '60 as a donor. My own '61 project hasn't progressed much since 2009.

My own '61 project hasn't progressed much since 2009. Bandit Resins also offers a '61 Starliner body that is just as nice as the Modelhaus body, but both the Bandit and Modelhaus bodies have "Sunliner" scrips molded in instead of "Starliner". Missing Link has a photoetch scrip set to fix that.
disabled modeler Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Would it be easier to find an old build up that may need a part of two...I have one somewhere here Id trade off for?
1930fordpickup Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 An old build up should work better . Now all you need to do is wait for someone to trade .
