The town I grew up in back in Illinois has a '70 Chevy longbed dually tow truck built from a long bed pickup. It's owned by a body shop and I think they use it to move cars from the yard to the shop as I haven't seen it on the road towing any vehicles. It is a 2wd and they also put a snow plow on the truck, I think to plow the entrance and around the building.

Nice project, I will be following as I am sure it will be a good one!

Looking good Dan, almost looks like a factory job! Is that the height you are going with or will it sit a bit higher? Those side rails and cab guard look great, you going to build bumpers for it too?

Awesome job on this, I had the same paint scheme in mind, white upper cab and white grill.
