stitchdup Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 I finished this a few weeks ago for our club's 1 year anniversary build off. I started with an original kit from 1962 so I didn't want to stray too far from what was in the box. I couldn't see myself using the seats that were in the kit so I used the custom options from the 53 studebaker so I could have some t'n'r and to continue this on the parcel shelf I cut a piece from the 59 el camino bed cover to fit. To add to the door panels a little I used some chrome parts from a revell 37 sedan as the moulded in handles pretty much disappeared under the primer. The only mod to the engine was using the triple carb and manifold set up from the revell 50 ford custom pick up and I kept the wire axle through the block and used the tyres from a revell 48 ford with caddy caps from iceman collections. For the rear suspension I carefully removed the springs from the axle and added a couple of blocks to lower it and to lower it some more I used some leftover johan wheels and tyres with whitewalls done in acrylic pen.I added some trim to the vicky top using some 1/4mm strips as it just looked a bit to plain for my tastes. I had a lot of problems getting the glass to stay on the vicky top so as a back up I did the carson top too. For the few body mods I used one of the option front ends that were in the kit, along with the 55 chevy headlight eyebrows, and at the rear I removed the stock lights completely and used a couple of stick on craft beads mounted on the rear pan (completely forgot to drill holes for them before painting, lol). The body paint is all duplicolour. These pics are all in colour even though some look to be black and white but I'm a terrible photographer. I was pleasantly surprised with how nicely detailed and moulded this kit was and almost regret building such an old unmolested kit but they were made to build
donb Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 This car is really well done. Interior and engine detail is super nice. The color fits the build perfectly and I like the carson top best. It just looks “right”.
espo Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Beautiful looking Kustom build. I like your idea of having two different roof options. Using the Studebaker seats look just right here. This model Ford has always been a personal favorite for me as a former owner of two different '51's and my parents had a '49 sedan. Since you had an original kit to work from and I assume all of the parts were present I was wondering if there was a stock height Victoria roof in the kit in addition too the Chopped Top ??

The only stock height roof option was the convertible up top mate. Here's what was in the box but some of the parts were just in the box when I received it and aren't from the kit.

I remember when this kit first came out and I just think that there was a stock height Victoria hardtop in the first issue. It may have been just wishful thinking on my part.
