TarheelRick Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 One of the old-timers and backbone of the real NASCAR. Ford man all the way. Mostly a decorated WWII veteran, 3 Purple Hearts and 2 Bronze Stars. Our VFW post was honored to present him with a folded American flag and a 21 gun volley when the Occoneechee/Orange County Speedway Restoration Group recognized him on his 90th birthday two years ago. Many of the outdoor festivities were rained out, but it was still a pleasure to meet him, Ned Jarrett, Marvin Panch, Wendell Scott's daughter, and several others.
vamach1 Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 (edited) I got his autograph at Carlisle a few years back. They don't make them like him anymore. Not sure when/where this pic is from. Edited November 30, 2017 by vamach1 1516
bbowser Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 One of the greats, he will be sorely missed.
