The louvers presented a problem - as rhe rescesses in the casting were hard to clean and finish - in the end just cleaned these up with a file … the process of finishing the surface of the metal required repeated passes to knock out the most visible scratches …

Photo II has some of the sanding tools that are

used to prep the metal

surface - and i have to clean the surface as i go …

Place the "turnings" closer together. I used a small maple dowel in a dremel with some auto polish. Probably 4 times as many turnings.

First some clear cote - alclad’s light sheen - then alclad’s transparent blue : cut with some clear ….  Had to sand after the second coat which was sprayed on a little too dry - leaving some graining - mite see it on these pix …

Lots of work needed to finish the bonnet - frames to hold the grills are made from brass L shaped stock - the  photo-etched grill material is cut from  from this sheet - had it for several years- can’t recall the source …

Also need to make the hood straps - these will be made from flat lead strip that is 1 mil in width - embossed by rolling a diamond bit along it’s length - then “Sharpied” brown ….

I love this technique. I made the anti-sub belt in the Super Gasser in a similar manner. I used fine screen, to emboss it. This looks great, sir!

The bonnett straps will hang loose - but the chassis rails have buckles that attach to posts with loops of .015 nickel  - the posts also have those neat castle nuts …

The bonnet strap over the exhaust manifold sits in a channel that  runs over the manifold   - another part where you gotta find some random stock of brass that you got YEARS ago - and hadn’t used since - it’s  .060 in width - the channel width is widened with some files - just wide enough to take the bonnett strap … the brass is heated - and then shaped …
