Harold Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 The other day while watching the IRL race at Watkins Glen, I saw a great Firestone ad. The grizzled old captain of a merchant marine ship is in his quarters finishing up a '68 'Vette model when someone rushes in to tell him the seas are getting rough. He leaves, and as the ship is tossed about, everything goes flying off the captain's desk- except the 'Vette, which, because of it's scale Firestones, grips the table and doesn't move an inch.

I saw it too Hal. Thinking of changing all of my builds to Firestone. (live in earth quake country)
mikemodeler Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I love the ad but has anyone found the irony in it? Wasn't there some outrage here a few months ago over Firestone wanting an increase in royalities for model car tires? Mike
Harry P. Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I also saw that ad. First TV ad I remember seeing that involved model cars.
Jello Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I saw it too and it is cool but I'am just not impressed with Firestone products and thats just me. It is good to know that someone thinks we not a bunch of nuts 'playing' with plastic cars... ~ Jeff
Joe Handley Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I saw that ad too (only during NASCAR), and laughed my butt off. At least untill I realized that it was for Firestone and it would probably BLOW UP in their face Only if they involve model Ford Explorers
Eshaver Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 If Harvey Firestone were alive today, Bridgestone would have never gotten hold of the company and we could still buy a quality product. How ever and it's already been well stated over at the General collum that we as a nation have become too complacent Personally, I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK!!!!!!!! Ed Shaver
george 53 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I'm with you Ed, I WANT IT BACK TOO! I'm tired of goin into auto zone, pep bpys an the like an seein stuff writin in spanish an aribic! Jus wait'll the good ol boys see that Budwieser(the great AMERICAN beer) is bein sold off to some European outfit! But I don't think It'll change nothin,Caz VERY few folks are willing to fight than change! This country's become TOO complacient!
JAFFA Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Yeah, i'm pretty sad to hear whats happening to all the old american brands.... People got greedy and lost all repect for history during the 80's or 90's.....
The Modeling Hermit Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Firestone lost my business when they trashed the strikers in the 90's. I had several friends that worked there that lost big time.

Everyday in this country today makes the '50s & '60s so much more greater than ever for me! If anybody finds the old but great American, call me! I miss her. ~ Jeff
