I realize that posting photos  from a photo hosting sight saves bandwidth for this website, but if the link is dead or host site denies photos, what is the point? Should delete the post or ask posters to re-link the photos. It's annoying and wasting my time reading. Sorry to sound snippy. Maybe I am?

Actually, Dave Ambrose mentioned that with the last major forum software upgrade, storage space increased by a vast amount, so that is no longer an issue.

I upload images 90% of the time now, but still use the links to my PayPal-hosted images (I pay) on occasion. It's easy to save an image off the web, and drag it into the body of a post here, so no reason not to. People who had a free PB account could go to their account, save each image, and upload it here, but expecting them do that...well, that's their decision.

I agree it can be a bummer when some images are missing from a post, but if they were poor quality, out-of-focus, poorly lit or otherwise not great, I don't think that's a huge loss. If the post relies heavily upon the images to share what's being worked on, then it definitely affects things in a negative way. If there are lots of words to describe what's being done, not as much.

It's not cool when you read a photo-intensive How To thread and the pics are gone or replaced with something else because the poster has a free hosting account with very little storage space.

It can occasionally be good for a laugh, though.  Send a PM if you want an example. Not posting that link here. I may take a while to get back to you. About to be away from the internet for a while.

Is that how you use the storage feature here?,  upload via a post ?

I never paid attention to be honest on how to use it, but it can come in handy for real fast photo posting.

No he means fotki. Hurricane Sandy, flooded servers, missing and permanently lost images hosted by fotki. 2012 wasn't that long ago.

That's how I use it. I don't upload to any albums or galleries, just adding images to posts as needed. It's easier and quicker than using the image hosting link method, and after you copy and image url from the web, you paste it into the body of a message, and it automatically appears as an image. Easy.

Sorry, I guess I missed that one. I've been storing pix on fotki for years and have never had any problems. Apparently my pix were stored on servers that were on stilts. Lucky me. -RRR
