Apparently John Force had a major crash today out in AZ.He is fine, along with other driver Jonnie Lindberg. The accident occurred when John was going through the lights up a t the end,?When his motor blew up,sending his car into the other driver, again Jonnie Lindberg.John was released from the hospital.Theres a bad omen with what's going on with this family.First a short couple of weeks ago,his daughter Brittany Force crashed her car very badly. And now John crashes hard out in AZ.Hey John Force it might be time to hang it all up,and retire.I love John Force,he's the driver who got me interested in drag racing.

John Force is one serious bad a$$, and I have the utmost respect for him.  But he is 68, and it seems that in motorsports, guys get warnings either by the number of wrecks, their severity or both.  Guys that do not heed the warnings seem to have that one last wreck that they don't walk away from.  I hope that does not happen to Force.

John has always done every thing spectacular, wether it's his patented 1/8 mile burn out warming the tires or destroying his car...

he seems to always know where the best camera angle is.....;)

somehow don't see this slowing him down...

Yea your right...He just likes to be the center of attention.I say that, not as a bad thing, that's just John Force being John Force. To me,he's one of the all time best drag racers. And he loves the camera.:D

Always been a Force fan even before the championships. That being said, maybe It"s  time for retirement and to rest on his laurels With his daughters It's a Great legacy.

Glad he's ok. That looks like a very bad blow up. I saw his daughters crash on TV and now I understand she's ok also and that's good. I think Big Bad John will know when to hang it up, I just hope its before something very bad happens to him.

I'm glad John is OK, but y'all act like it's never happened before! :o:rolleyes: Might I remind you he's used to being on fire and been in a lot worse like in Memphis in 1992.

Exactly,I just hope he doesn't do anything he will regret. If he did retire,no matter when,he will always go down in history,as the best NHRA funny car driver,in my opinion....And highway, you are right,Johns been in some FU%#*@ accidents, and some bad fires...Now he has taught his daughters how to race and win.I mean if John Force is your dad, chances are that you would probably grow up as an excellent drag racer..And the girls are doing great..

Matthew, nobody is saying he hasn't been in bad accidents before.  However, at some point a guy's luck runs out, and the next bad accident is the one he does not walk away from.

Octane you are absllutely right.Thats what kept popping into my mind, the death of Dale Earnhardt..He should go out on a high, and always leave the audience wanting more. And as far as his way of talking to the media, you can actually see John's adrenaline rush, still going off the scales, which obviously is from just blowing down the track at 300+ miles an hour.So actually it's really funny. And great to watch..I just wish him luck

Yea,I believe that John Force is trying to win one more championship, and get a Wally, before he retires.Last time,John Force won a championship was in 2013.And of course he won several championships over his long, and colorful career. All I can say,is I hope he gets that elusive goal of winning one last Wally, before anything bad happens to him..Good luck John.

Both Earnhardt and Force can be credited with helping their series gain popularity due to their desire to win. I think in the case of Earnhardt's death, you are seeing drivers retire at a much earlier age so they can enjoy life. His son is a perfect example- retires wealthy, healthy and has a second career lined up as a TV commentator.

Enjoy life is right as I'm sure that professional racing takes its toll on drivers with all that traveling, dialing in the car, testing, racing, accidents, guest appearances, etc. and of course problems back home while they're away and not seeing their families all the time as well.

There is no doubt that Earnhardt Sr. was trying to win the race and possibly another Championship, along with some 40 other drivers on that day.  Unfortunately he chose to mount his belts in a manor that was not recommended and his preference for an open faced helmet proved his undoing.   I had a white # 3 on the rear window of my pick up for a long time before that day and it was still there when I sold the truck.

David, I did not mean for my comment to be interpreted as a bash to Dale Earnhardt.  Using the word obsessed was probably too strong when "determined" would have been a better word choice.  I always had a great deal of respect for Dale, and his last win at Talladega was absolutely breathtaking.

Dale took his safety seriously.  Unfortunately, what he thought was safe in some cases turned out to be incorrect.  He actually believed that an open faced helmet was safer than a closed face helmet.  Dale Jr. changed to a closed face helmet and felt the full wrath of Dale Sr. for this choice and it was due to Dale's perception of safety.

NASCAR deserves a lot of criticism for their handling of safety at this time.  NASCAR put the full responsibility of safety on the teams.  So open face helmets, the HANS device being optional and the non-uniform location of the safety belt anchors was acceptable.  The teams around this time discovered the Holy Grail for car construction, which was they solved front end flex.  This meant one car could be built almost identically to another which in turn enhanced speed by keeping the contact patch of both front tires (the right front in particular) adhering to the track as the teams wanted.  The way in which they did this was to use a heavier gauge of steel tubing in the front clip and they added a lot of additional bracing.  The problem was that the front end of the cars no longer crushed so that they could dissipate the energy of the crash.  A car that ran into a wall head on would "crush" only to the front tires and then it would be like two brick walls colliding into one another with the remaining impact of the crash being absorbed by the driver's head and neck.

The teams had no choice but to all follow one another as the cars built with this new front chassis design were faster.  However, they did not have the resources to see what impact this had on the crash worthiness of the cars and drivers died.  Kenny Irwin, Jr., Adam Petty and Dale Sr. all passed within 12 months of each other as I recall.  NASCAR could rationalize the first two as Irwin was a journeyman and the Pettys may have rushed Adam to Cup, but Dale was the King at Daytona and restrictor plate racing in general and their rationalizations all fell flat with Dale's passing.

Hmmm, this thread WAS about John Force crashing and blowing up his funny car going through the lights the other day..Just joking.Any car discussion(NASCAR Dale Earnhardt),is cool with me.But I think the reason why Dale is being discussed,is that, speaking for myself,I certainly don't want John Force to get killed..He has proved himself over and over. Now I think he should step back down, help the girls, who are amazing drivers, with their cars, and maybe become a commentator for the NHRA.I could listen to John Force ranting.I mean that's what he does now,and it's great.Put him in front of a microphone, and forget it..Ha

Sorry I didn't mean to veer of course. I also have the utmost respect for John Force and what he has accomplished in Drag Racing. I also have the same respect for several of the drivers in NASCAR and what they have done in their form of racing. As you pointed out this is about John Force and I agree that is what it should be limited to.

Oh yea,no problem at all.I guess the bottom line is that no body's wants to see their favorite driver,s or any driver Get injured,or worst yet,get killed. And you  know getting back to Dale Earnhardt,,and this is just my opinion,But I really believe that if Dale had a closed faced helmet,as opposed to his ALWAYS,face open helmet,he probably would have lived...But that's a whole discussion for somewhere else...I'm saying that John Force should step down while he is on top, before it's too late, like Dale....Yup...

Theres one problem, when it comes to 180- 220 mph passes, blowers, and a tank full of juice and a bottle full of funny, its hard to walk away, its worse than any street drug, how many old sling shotters are still around, or have both legs. I was born fast cars and hotrods, when I die Im going in a blown cutlass, when they bury me my casket will be airbrushed with blown big blocks from gm, ford and chrysler, and all black with ghost flames. At 68 ill still be standin tall thinking about an eighty hot rod a cold sixer and that nights date and running the ricers at the lake followed by a new tattoo and slow hand down at the bon fire at the river.

I seriously doubt he'll hang it up, nitro for blood, no "AA" for that one ?
