1971 charger colour

Recommended Posts

Just staring to build the charger and I was wondering what to paint it, had a look at what colours they came out with and liked the light green matallic paint.

I usually like to use testors paints but I cant work out if they have that colour or different wording for it [ eg. green zinc chrome, light olive green or citrus yellow green] ?.  or maybe another brand might make something, spray,  enamel or a lacquer .

Any ideas out there.

Any of the colors you mentioned are flat colors used in military application.  Your best bet is to find out the paint code and go to your local Automotive supply store and see if you can get some Duplicolor or maybe they can mix up a spray can of your desired color.

Automotive spray paint is very "hot" and will attack the styrene model so you WILL need to use a primer and the Duplicolor primer is great stuff.

Be absolutely certain to use thin coats and build it up to the final color depth and follow the directions as for weather conditions, time between coats, etc.

Search through the Under Glass section to see if any of the builds look like the color you want. Most folks will list what paint they used somewhere in the thread. I use MCW paint. They carry most of the old factory colors. They can put most of what they offer into spray cans. It is a good bit more expensive, but you will get the exact color you are looking for. The other drawback is that it can take 4-6 weeks to receive, after you place your order.
