Psychographic Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 I want to build a custom 59 Caddy sedan delivery and was wondering which kit had the better chassis plate and suspension. If anyone has pics of the underside of the AMT and Polar Lights kit that would help. Thank you.

I'm not positively sure but I think the Revell rear bumper fits the AMT body really good . It eliminates the big step of the ambulance. But no matter what I'm sure you could cut them both up a make it fit !
Casey Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 (edited) See comparison here: http://www.scalemodelnews.com/2013/02/who-ya-gonna-call-amt-125-scale.html They appear to be one and the same, just different decals and thing son the roof: http://round2corp.com/model-kit-instructions/uploads/amt750.pdf Simple one-piece, promo style chassis on the PL kit: Same for AMT kit: Edited March 15, 2018 by Casey
Psychographic Posted March 15, 2018 Author Posted March 15, 2018 Well now I can just look to see what one I can find cheapest. Thank you guys.

Art Anderson Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Bear in mind, that both Ecto-1 kits mirror actual practice with hearses of the era depicted by these kits--the rear of the hearse body is noticeably wider than a stock '59 Cadillac! Art

Thank you Photobucket, and to think I used to stand up for them. 2 hours ago, Art Anderson said: Bear in mind, that both Ecto-1 kits mirror actual practice with hearses of the era depicted by these kits--the rear of the hearse body is noticeably wider than a stock '59 Cadillac! Art Thanks Art. Will the grille and rear bumper from a Revell or Monogram kit fit the ecto?

They worked on the page yesterday. So I plunked the url address between quote marks in a Google search and teased out a thumbnail image of the side, which I downloaded and resized. Can't say that I favor the slight overall wedge shape, but at least it shows what an Impala sedan delivery roof & sides would look like on a Caddy (Tom Daniel Bad Actor version I assume, judging from the sunroof location) ....

It must be the AMT kit that the Revell 59 caddy rear bumper fits and eliminates the big step bumper. This is a picture of The Polar lights kit with molded in headlights. This is the Revell 59 Caddy bumper. And this is the Revell chassis. That is the best I can come up with. I don't have the AMT kit . I don't remember what happened to it but I remember putting the Revell rear bumper on it because it had a big step in it and it fit I can't remember if the Revell kit Grill fit the AMT kid or not. I've only got the polar light kit and the front bumper from the Revell kit. Hope that helps. Edited March 16, 2018 by Pat Minarick

Russel, thank you for going to the trouble to show that to me. While that is a good idea, I'm probably going to use the stock roof and chop it. 4 hours ago, Pat Minarick said: Dave I pulled out the polar lights kit and the rear bumper doesn't have a step in it. Thanks Pat, depending on the pocketbook and my mood, I might just use the body and interior tub and scratchbuild the frame and suspension. I made a fastback out of a 70 Impala, and while looking at it I realized it had almost the exact shape of the 59 Caddy, so the custom grille (which another great member here is sending me) might go into it. I'm still just collecting parts and ideas at this point.

Frankly, while I have considered working up an Ecto as a hearse, with a fully detailed Cadillac Commercial chassis, I've never tried it, but I suspect at least the Monogram hood, grille and front bumper will work though Art
