mustang1989 Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Just can't get over the work that's going into this one. Great job so far Ismael.
ismaelg Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 Hello, The decals had over 2 weeks to dry. Finally clear coated with Gravity 2K. I was hoping for a glass smooth finish but it turned out a bit rougher than I expected. It seems the decals reacted somehow with the clear. Maybe the decal surface had some residue or something the clear did not like. Whatever the case, after 24 hours, I tested polishing the hood. It definitely improved but sanding and polishing clear over a decal is nerve racking! I stopped before it was 100% perfect but I'd rather restrain pushing good luck than going over the edge and destroy it. I think I got away with it but still have to polish the rest of the car. Thanks,
James2 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 I understand how frustrating this can be. Have you considered another coat of clear?
ismaelg Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 I tried that but did not help. Polishing seems to be working. Just that it is extremely slow and nerve racking.
ismaelg Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 Hello, Body has been polished. White is really hard to photograph so I took this quick video. I was able to polish away most of the issues. And I'll hide those remaining Thanks,
ismaelg Posted September 2, 2018 Author Posted September 2, 2018 Hello, Progressing nicely. Tons of little things still pending but definitely approaching the home stretch. Thanks! Ismael
kitbash1 Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 As always Ismal, your work is amazing. I can't wait to see this finished.
ismaelg Posted September 3, 2018 Author Posted September 3, 2018 Hello, Spent considerable time scratchbuilding an acetate door glass to the correct shape, the openings, painting the black border trim inside etc. After gluing it in place my single brain cell triggered an alarm: "You fool! You should have use it as a template for the other side!" So I started all over again for the other side... DUH!!! HA!! Thanks,
ismaelg Posted September 5, 2018 Author Posted September 5, 2018 Hello, Roof TV camera, antennas and transponder can only mean one thing: Last progress update! ENTERING THE HOME STRETCH! Checker Flag in sight! Hopefully the next update will be COMPLETION! Thanks,
3men2s Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 (edited) Isma? have a preguntation. Is this accurate ( photo 1), the way the back door opens on the race car? I beleived it was a one piece. (photo 2) I am building one and planning to do removable back clip and was wondering if I should do this swing open back to my project but not if it is weard. I notice that the wing seats permanent to the chassis. let me know please, I know you know. Also I know that the second photo is a C5R . but the C6R has a similar design. ismaelg Posted September 6, 2018 Author Posted September 6, 2018 Danny, Short answer: NO. If that claims to be a C6-R, it is so wrong at so many levels. Hood and rear deck lid are not hinged. They are removable. Fenders and quarter panels are also removable. Spoiler does not attach to the lid. It goes straight into the chassis. There is a firewall behind the driver. There is a crash box between driver and door. Is that an antenna or a roof mounted shifter? Check my Fotki albums from 2006 and 2007 at Petit LeMans for pictures of the C6R. http://public.fotki.com/tatocorvette/petit-lemans-2006/ http://public.fotki.com/tatocorvette/petit-lemans-2007/ Thanks,
