I'll take a guess here.

There is a '49 Mercury Trophy kit and a Customizing Series one.

Anybody know the difference between the kits?

About the '61 Ford.Never seen a Trophy 3in1 of that.

So is the Styline has nothing to do with the Trophy type kits?

What guess are you making?

The Merc kits are the same.

No difference other than lettering on the box.

The 61 Ford was never a Trophy Series.

Yep nothing at all.

Hope this is finally clear for you  :)

Thanks.

What about the '63 Ford Advanced Customizing kit?

I have seen a ton of versions but don't remember if they even said 3in1.

Is an Advanced Customizing a Trophy kit?

Thanks.

Couple more things to figure out here.

The Buick Electra and the '65 Pontiac Grand Slam.

Are those and the two Fords the only extra Customizing kits that have been reissued regularly?

It would be a really pleasant surprise if the drag boat was reissued as a stand alone kit instead of putting it in with another kit.

' drag boat was reissued as a stand alone kit instead of putting it in with another kit. '

Out of the corner of my eye I saw the drag boats.

Might have been at Round2, Autoworld or Hobbylinc websites.

Those are real nostalgia pieces.

The Rayson-Craft drag boat has probably never  been issued since the original offering......the boat issued by Dave the model King with the '70 Pontiac was an MPC offering, not the AMT Rayson-Craft boat.

I will take your word for what boats the kits have in them.

This kit is available all over the place for $24.95

Then I see the frustration about the Bonneville and the boat.

Looks like AMT released '70 Pontiac Bonneville but no boat!

Item #1

Took a look around for Advanced Customizing.Apparently there were many of them.

'63 T Bird and '64 Ford Hardtop to name a few.Looks like they came out between '63 and '66.

Item #2

Another slap in the face for boat enthusiasts.

64 El Camino Advanced Customizing kit used to come with a Westcraft boat.

MIA in the current AMT release.

AMT is doing good with some kits though.

'65 Pontiac Grand Prix as a Grand Slam instead of ho hum 2 in 1 Stock and Custom.

Actually the boat in the Model King release is the modified version of the Rayson Craft kit. It became "The Hull Raiser" Tim Boyd had some interesting insights on this kit here but have been unable to find them. It was released in the Quarter Masters set along with the customized '68 Firebird and the Aqua Rod set with the mid seventies Chevy van. Still would be nice to see back.

' Still would be nice to see back. '

I keep suggesting that AMT just run off little kits like the hard to find boats as 'Bag Kit's.

Just stick them in a bag like they did with blue see through body for Hippy Hemi dragster.

Sell them on Autoworld website for $10-15 and get on with it.

That would be how you serve the niche market.Period!

The different colored limited kits are run before or after the main production of a kit is done. To make a production run of kits is not as simple as chucking a tool in the mold machine and pressing a button, packaging not withstanding.

Perhaps you should research the process and then you'll understand. In order for a company to make any profit (bottom line that's why they're in business) they need to make a certain amount of kits. The small alternate color release kits are simply a bonus for the hardcore hobbyists like us (the people who frequent this and other sites) and we are in the minority of overall potential buyers.

If the sales of the current 3in1 Customizing Boat kit are good chances are we'll see other releases. The fact they reissued that, the Lindberg Owens Cruiser and the ex Palmer Coronado boat are a good indication that they feel there's enough interest/sales potential. Plus there's the upcoming MPC Chrysler Hydro Vee so perhaps we'll get a reissue of AMT's Hull Raiser at some point in the future.

The Customizing Series '49 Mercury was a 1987 re-issue.  Along with a chrome tree of trophies, stanchions and other car-show stuff, it came with a sanding stick, some "customizing tools" and some (low-quality) A+B epoxy putty.  The instructions included customizing tips on how to chop the top etc.

Here's a link to a 2016 thread, where photos of the kit contents were posted along with other info.

Sounds like the Customizing Series are a little beyond the Advanced Customizing and Styline.

Mostly because of the booklet.

But the Advanced and Styline include more front and rear custom body parts.

Think the thing to do is grab a '62 Electra and look at that.

How does the new release compare to the Pro Shop one and the flat pink version?

This should get you started regarding that specific kit.

Thank you Casey.

Is the 2010 issue in article the flat pink one? Images were not opening.

Which one has the most customizing parts?

Did see in article that it is a curbside kit.Have to think about that one.

Posted (edited)

' Not a curbside, it has always had an engine '

I am going by what was in that link.

One piece interior.Metal axles.Engine with notch in it for axle. That is curbside enough for me.

Is the current '65 Grand Prix like that?

Which is better buy of the ones out now? The '62 Electra or the '65 Grand Prix?

That's not curbside.  The usual definition of curbside is molded-in hood and no engine.  The '62 Buick and '65 Grand Prix have a similar construction w/ metal axles and molded in chassis detail, interior tub.  They are vintage tooling...

Thanks!

That is interesting. They are like a class of AMT kit's.

Sure.Nostalgia experience will work.

Okay. Our '65 Lincoln kit is just like that.

Seems like they add the custom features to make kit worthwile.

Update.PIcked up the '61 Styline and the '63 Advanced Customizing (says on the side 'Build a stock '63 Ford Galaxie 500 XL')

The '61 is in a long flat box.

What does that mean?

Just to jump ahead here.I think the '60 Ford Stariiner and '64 Mercury Marauder would make this a nice little early 60's Ford collection.

That would keep me out of trouble for awhile.

No.That is a real question.

What does the flat box mean?

' Is this the issue you purchased?'

Yes.It is.There is no round gold sticker on it though.

How come your kit is still wrapped?

Well, what started out as an informative thread on Trophy series kits has meandered off, as usual. So, anyone clicking this to find information on the Trophy series kits now has to wade through other content which just muddies the waters and can leave people confused. Why not start a new thread asking about the Customizing and Styline series'?

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the old kits, but this is where the decent topics that you start devolve into hard to follow threads. I get some people like to treat these threads like real time conversations where wandering off to other topics is ok, but in the "written" word it makes finding what could be good information on a topics not worth the readers time to file through.
