Jon Haigwood Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 Building a 56 Ford mild custom with tri power. Trying to decide what air cleaner(s) to use . Did they use any one piece air cleaners back in the 50's/60's ? I have the standard round chrome ones that are commonly used and the finned ones that was in my Tri Power kit from R&M of which I can not seem to find any 1:1 air cleaners to compare them with. High octane Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 How 'bout the air cleaner that comes with the chrome engine in the '34 Ford pick up truck?

For example, Helling & Stelling made a series of finned, cast alloy air filter covers in the late '50s-early 60's. The real ones came in 14.5" and 16" lengths, and were universal fits for 2-4bbl carbs, or 3-2bbl carbs. This is a repop styled from the original design, made in a 16" length (narrower than the original universal fit version) for most 3X2 equipped V8 engines, and a longer one for Pontiac and 348 Cbebby engines that have wider carb spacing. They use three round filters, and breathe through slots in the bottom. Edited June 7, 2018 by Ace-Garageguy
Jon Haigwood Posted June 7, 2018 Author Posted June 7, 2018 Ace, that is exactly what I was looking for. I resume that none are available in a kit or resin. I could possibly scratch build one Thank

Some early '60s Fords used something like this, too, and there was other aftermarket stuff out there. The Lindberg '34 Ford pickup suggested by Nick has a similar air cleaner for the optional engine.

Fat Brian Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 It's not ribbed but there is a 3x2 long air cleaner in the AMT 58 Impala and I believe it came in a few other kits as well. I used one on my 59 Eldorado.

High octane Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 The AMT '34 Ford Pickup truck kit comes with a flathead motor and a chromed big block Ford engine with tri-carbs and air cleaner.
