I just wanted to get some pics of the completed chassis before I get started on finishing up the body and wing.  There is not much to the chassis as you can see and the wing is not glued on so it is hanging at a wierd angle.  The nice rotors don't even show through the wheels so I wasted my Molotow chrome on those.

FUBARED the FUBARING Paint FUBARING job!

Well, I hope it is not beyond repair... remind me to not take on such a complicated paint job on future builds FML!

Now I have to fix this, otherwise I would be applying decals right now.

FUBAR!!!

That’s a heck of a paint job! I’d hate to do that one too. Hopefully you can resurrect it. Good luck!

Yeah, I guess since this is only my 5th model I shouldn't be too down on myself.. I will fix it tomorrow.. it won't be easy but I am close to finishing this and future paint should be a breeze.

I'm just curious, how do you deal with height in paint differences when you do different paint like I did on this?  I can feel the paint is higher on the later paint than on the original paint.  Do I sand it or let the clear resolve the difference?

I don’t think I’ve ever done something that breaks mid panel, I’ve always lucked out and had color changes at a panel line or something. When I used to do model trains I had a few like this but I was using an airbrush so the coats were lots thinner than you can get with a rattle can. I think if I were you I’d just plan on the clear evening it out.

Well... all is not as bad as I thought.. I wish it would have turned out better but after some sanding and a light clear coat and decals, it looks a lot better.  The decals have been able to hide a lot.  Later I will address the other issues with weathering.  When I am finished with decals and the clear coat I am going to paint the inside of the headlights and the top of the dash flat black.

I am really loving this kit.  I have four more Hasegawa Prototype kits and I am looking forward to them.  I will be getting more in the future.

First off, bud, what tape did you use to mask with?

Tamiya mostly but 3M fine line for the corners.  The 3M came up a bit but I think it is because the corners for the tape were where there was a corner in the body.  I've always done corners with it on flat surfaces in the past.  I need to figure out how to cut the tamiya tape properly in future projects like this where the paint line needs to turn down a corner of the body.

Thanks Will.. I am almost finished with it.

I used my finger and also a fingernail dotting tool.  I even sprayed a couple of light coats of clear before the paint from white to yellow.  I really only had one spot bleed through from the yellow though.

I just finished the body by painting the top of the dash and inside of the headlights flat black.  Now I just have a few more things and I'll be finished

Thanks Dale.. not bad for a newb.  The cool thing about this one is the paint job is so busy that the people I know who are not modelers don't even notice the mistakes.  It actually looks really cool on the shelf.

However, yours is fabulous!  Great job on that Porsche!  I'm going to have to get one of those someday.

I think I have decided to build a few of the Nascar kits I got for $6.50 each as practice to develop my skills more before taking on harder, more expensive kits like this one.

I think you did one heck of a nice job, Chris!  We are our own worst critic. Trust me, you will just keep getting better and better.  Again, Chris, great looking model!
