Hi all! I was looking for somewhere to introduce myself and I think I've found the spot! :o

My name's Kurt, aged 24. I've been browsing the site as a guest for a while as I tried to find info on model car sites/forums in Australia. I finally decided to join after not having found much local content. There are some modellers on a Hot Rod site I frequent but not enough to provide help, information, parts and encouragement.

I'm a long time member of such forums as Ausrotary.com (large Australian Mazda and Rotary owners site), Ipswichrotorcrew.com (local owners site), Performanceforums.com, the old and current incarnations of Fullboost.com, Boostcruising.com (local South East Queensland auto enthusiasts site) and MoparMarket.com so I know my way around these types of sites.

As one could probably guess my interests for the last 7-odd years have been firmly rooted in the Mazda and Rotary-engine communities. I've owned a few Mazda’s in that time and currently am working on a 71' 1300 Wagon. However my first love was definitely Hot/Street Rods and Drag Racing, particularly the old Wild Bunch (similar to U.S. Pro Mod and our own Top Doorslammer) days. I’ve been attending shows and race events since I was about 8 years old and regularly since I was around 13.

Anyway back to model kits. I first started when I was around 12 or 13 and managed to set up a little work station in my bedroom. I'm fairly one-eyed with my interests so basically I have only ever built Hot Rod style kits and the occasional drag/pro street orientated kit. It was a regular hobby right up until I finished high school but I have recently decided to get back into it. I have a number of unfinished/unbuilt kits in boxes (don't we all?!) and am currently completing the 1992 Re-issue of the Revell Thames Panel Truck 'Gasser' that I originally started in 2001!

Cheers for now, I’m going back to reading old build-up threads!

Welcome to our humble little forum. Good to have someone from Oz on here. Although I am a US native, I've always loved all things Aussie! (Not because of Mad Max, it goes beyond that) I think Australian Falcons, Holdens, and Chrysler Australia have great and interesting cars. I've even seen pics of our AMC AMXes (called Ramblers there) with the right hand drive. A few car shows here have had Australian cars in them. I've seen in person a Falcon from about 1973, A Chrysler Charger Six Pack (6 cylinder) and a 69 Monaro done up as a Pro Street car. Tasty indeed!!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. At the moment I am still trying to get over the content of this site... there are some seriously talented, patient and thorough individuals on here. Australian's tend to have a reputation as a friendly bunch so I'll try and live up to that :) It's good to hear there are a couple of other's on here as well!

To the 'Rotor Heads' that have posted thanks for making me feel a little more comfortable as not everyone shares the passion for these unique sounding little engines :( Finally if any of you would like more information on Australian designed/assembed Holdens, Fords or Valiant/Chryslers just ask away or send me a PM. I have a fair knowledge on these cars and can assist in any pictures of certain models as I have been quite the obsessive 'right-click-save-as' type over the years ;-) Cheers again, Kurt.

Oh yes this is a great site! ;)

Well, I am a rotor head even though I don't own one but, I love them things. You can make so much power in that little engine. Yes, they are a unique sounding engine, I love it, I like the 3 and 4 rotors more but I love them all! You either love it or hate it, literally! To make all that power in those little engines takes talent and skill and I give props to all the people who do that and Kurt, I give you props also. ;) Australia and Puerto Rico have the best rotarys. When it comes to info though, don't listen to Chris :D for obvious reasons. ;)

I love this video, I want to do this to our Bugeye

and since I'm a fan of drifting

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB87XnSEe8I

and I am a huge fan of sports car racing and Rolex so, I've been rooting for Speedsource

anymore rotary videos you want me to post? :D

This is indeed, one of the best darn forums going these days..I'm still relatively new myself, but I've met some of greatest guys here, and there is a wealth of very talented builders.

Hahaha listen to you Rotor Heads... nice one! I'm a big fan of the 3 and 4-rotor engines too. We have a number of street cars here in Australia that pack 20B turbo 3-rotor (and a few nat. aspirated rigs) engines... as you can imagine coupled with a light weight early model Mazda they are some of the most potent road driven cars around! What I might do is post a new thread with some photos/vids of local cars and cruises including some action from the up-coming Fast Fours and Rotaries Jamboree here in Queensland in a few weeks time.

Of course the one and only 4-rotor king is the 1991 Le Mans winning 787B... oh what a sound! Here in Aus there has been a turbo-charged 4-rotor engine (hand build engine/crank, not a factory Mazda race motor) campaigning in the top level of Sport Compact drag racing. It's a full chassis E36 BMW two-door as I believe has eventually managed a best of e.t. of 7.2 but has had some development problems of late. Sadly like the U.S.A. our Compact drag scene is doomed to be over-run by the mighty 3.0 litre + 2JZ Supra engines....

On that note unfortunately stump I am unsure if I will be able to make it to the QMHE this year as it's the same weekend as the two-day Jamboree event. I'm assisting a photographer this year too so I don't think I'll have too much time on my hands.

And it is still the only Japanese manufacture to win overall.

Oh my god, don't get me started on the 787B, one of my favorites  love the sound love the car, still the only Japanese manufacter to win at the 24 Heures Du Man. Love the sound of the 3 and 4 rotors, did you watch that Bugeye video? yeah! ;) you hear of Scoot Sports? I love this sound

That Bimmer sounds sweet

Yeah same here, it seem like all and everybody twin turbos a 2JZ, yeah they are sweet motors and can make power but that's all the people do, it isn't hard now to make 1000hp from the 2JZ. They are like the late model Camaros and Fox bodys, they are everywhere in drag racing and so common and anybody can make 500+hp out of them, that's why I and other people get bored when we see them but it takes talent to make 500+ from a rotary or an Audi 5 cylinder ;)
