AMT has Monte Carlo SS 454 '70 kit but I'd like to built '71. What are differences between '70 and '71? Are there conversion resin parts to do '71?

The main or only difference is the turn signal shape and location. The 71 had them also in the front bumper, but are rectangular, vs round in the 70. The 72 had rectangular, but they were moved to beside the grill in the vertical position.

I would "google image" for pictures of the different year models of the Monte Carlo. I owned a '72 Monte Carlo years ago and the only major thing I can recall, if you want to call it major, was the front parking lights. the '72 had the lights in the grill area and previous year models had the lights in the bumper. I'm sure there are many little trim differences. If a vinyl top is a consideration I know that there were a couple of different styles. One was called the "halo" roof based on the body colored metal between the drip rails and the vinyl roof. The other looks like a standard vinyl roof with chrome trim at the base of the C pillar and running from side window too side window passing under the rear window. I don't know of any Landau style factory vinyl roofs until the '73 models.

Landau roofs became an option starting in 1973.  The '70, '71 and '72 all had grilles distinct from one another.  In addition, the '71 had a hood ornament.

Looks to me like the headlight trim on the '71 and '72 is squared up more than on the '70 too.

Kari, here's a link to an e-bay auction you might find useful.

It's mostly junk but if you look directly below the red AMT Willys front end there's an original '71 Monte Carlo front bumper and grille piece. :o

I missed the auction but the bumper is interesting. Is it from a kit or diy made?

Here is a screenshot of the bumper. I rotated the picture for clarity.

AMT made annual kits of the Monte from '70 to '72.

Here's a link to the auction a few weeks ago on that kit. looks like it went for a pretty reasonable price too.

Grill, front bumpers/front signals/hood trim. 71/72 had square headlight doors as well as tail light insert trim rear trim panel and interior patterns were different on all 3 as well as steering wheels. SS option was only available on 70/71, 72 could be ordered with all SS options except the SS trim. Various Auto/4 speed options available even the 454 LS-6 was available. I have owned 4 first gen Monte Carlos over the years

This is the first that I'm hearing regarding the LS-6 being available in the Monte , Super Sport or otherwise . In my 48 years , I've only seen the 360hp LS-5  ( 365hp for 1971 ... in spite of a sever drop in compression ... hmm ... ) as the top offering . A neighbour had a triple-black 1970 SS-454 ; looked just like the ones in the ads from late 1969 --- stunning , and stone-stock .

Here is a section from Hagerty's   "A total of 3,823 buyers ordered the Turbo-Jet 454-cid V-8, rated at 360 bhp in LS5 form, while 10 brave individuals bought the 450 bhp LS6. This makes the SS 454 the most powerful and collectible Monte Carlo, the LS6s more so".

Seeing that the G-bodies were based upon the A-bodies , the LS-6 isn't that much of a stretch .

The one I saw for sale was back in the early 80's, One of the four I had that I had recently bought at the time was a mist green metallic with gator skin halo top, yes kinda like the Mopar Mod Tops 70 Monte C. 350 M22-4spd, pwr windows, pwr buckets, tilt, cruise, F41 suspension, G80 12 bolt posi with way too much gear at a steep 4:56 lighting pkg with the rare as can be fiber optic option, looked similar to Mopars fender mount turn signal indicators, 7 inch Rallys with a monogramed "M" in the center caps and get this a factory chambered exhaust system. That was one rare car and I paid $6000.00 Cdn. for it The Black LS-6 Monte was for sale for $45,000.00. There are the nay sayers that will say they never existed but back then you could factory order just about anything you wanted even if it was not listed as an option, yes I am sure some were dealer installed, but just as legit  as a Nickey, Yenko or Baldwin, maybe even a COPO that some exec. had built for himself and those for sure exist out there ..........  Here are a couple of pics of mine, the Green 70 350 4 spd ,   Brown 70 LS-5 TH400 4:88 12Bolt , I was running slicks as you can see, this car would yank the front wheels off the ground on the street, and my current 72 454 LS-6 TH400 3400 stahl adjustable rear suspension 4:11 12Bolt , This thing is insane, you can be rolling at about 25 mph and hit it, and it ignites the tires right through 2nd and then I lift out of it lol You should hear this thing at almost 7000 RPM!!! .... also had a Blk on White 70 350 blk bucket interior
