Saw the preview a few times for the new Death Race movie and went to the web site over the weekend. Those cars look cool! I've since been tossin around the idea to build a "Death Race" car. I'm not inspired to do a build-off or anything, but I'm thinking it would be a cool subject for a build-off. After the build-off someone could photoshop all the cars into one action pic... I don't know... Just thought it would fun.

 Eric, check out the old movie called "Death Race 2000" With David Carridine, Stallone, an Valleri Perrine! It's got some pretty cool lookin Death mobiles in it too, an the story lines pretty funny! You might get a kick outta it!

i might be interested in a build off

if this is something we want to do someone should put up a list of cars that are allowed

(im too new to the site to initiate this)

Hmmmm add some 1/35th scale machine guns and 1/48 cannons......ROCK ON !

I've had an idea for a zombie hunters truck floating around my head for a couple months.

Things like that tend to happen when I watch Night of the Living Dead (both versions), Dawn of the Dead (both versions), Land of the dead, 28 days later, 28 months later, Shawn of the dead and then read the Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z within a short period. :P

Glad to see others are into this idea as well.

I've never been in a build off before and don't feel like my skills are up to snuff with everyone else's around here (also my time will be limited over the next 2 years as I'm starting my Masters degree next week), but I think this idea would be great build-off material. I would love to see this happen as a build-off...

So how does setting up a build-off work?

I'll make an attempt:

diymirage mentioned a list of allowed cars. I don't believe in limiting creativity... pick what you want.

My suggestions for guidelines...

- curbside is fine (since these cars are mostly "external appearance" driven)

- all external weapons and armor must be handmade

- copying movie cars is fine, just identify it

- cars, pickups, vans, etc... are fine

- no military models (how's that?)

- any scale except 1:1

- Deadline... ? Dec 31st?

any suggestions? Anything I missed?

What do you think?

it seems to me that people biulding on a 1:12 scale will have a advantage over people building on a 1:64 scale (since it might be easyer to make stuff)

also, will this be open mike night ? (it doesnt have to be the car featured in the movie)

because if so, someone should come up with a brief description of what our vehicle is build to do

and...erm...what is curbside, are we making the applebees version?

Funny this popped up recently and caught me in the middle of a new build, which I guess would fit this theme. I think . . .

This is something I'm calling PAINKILLER, and it started with these:

Then I got carried away and did this:

And THAT lead to this:

There are plenty of in-progress shots in my Fotki, if you follow this link:

Love 'PAINKILLER' and the wip pix, ###### Cranky! I figgered you'd have something along these lines! Didn't you post up a 57Chevy kinda desert-stormin kinda beast before? :o

I see you have good taste in movies, sir! :D Death Race 2000 is actually one of my favorite DVDs, and I believe that it's also one of Sylvester Stallone's first movies (with his clothes on anyway). A true classic!

I don't participate in build-offs (unless there's a 2-3 year deadline  ), but if there ever has been one that has tempted me, this would be it. I gotta see that movie, the cars look awesome! Build-off or not, I might still build something like that just for fun.

:D Guys, you CAN get cannon, machine guns an stuff in 25th scale.Look in any 1/25th WWII airplane kit an you'll find allkindsa guns! :)

i thought it was more a mather of creativity that we were to make our own weapons?

im sure i could steal some of my lil nepews gi joe guns otherwise :P

PAINKILLER is AWESOME! I LOVE IT! That's exactly what I had in mind for this.

I'm glad everyone is as excited as I am about doing this.

I agree we should agree (?) on guidelines. These are the ones I suggested...

- curbside is fine (since these cars are mostly "external appearance" driven)

- all external weapons and armor must be handmade (yes/no ?)

- copying movie cars is fine, just identify it

- cars, pickups, vans, etc... are fine... anything goes.

- no military models (how's that?)

- any scale except 1:1 (Should this be limited to 1:24/1:25 scale?)

- Deadline... ? Dec 31st? (Should we move this out for Ollie F?)

The idea/purpose of the cars, once built, should be to compete in a Death Race. They can be prepped to look like they've completed death races already or as if they're going to compete for the first time.

Let me know if these need to be tweaked. What's your preference?

This rules. I like every idea you have. I will say that I think raiding military models for weapons is a good idea though. But handmade stuff sounds cool too. Let's get this started ! Can't wait. -Will

how about "all external weapons and armour must be handmade or kit-bashed" no just glue-ons

aint too picky about scale, although I think 1/25 would be good

other than that I'm cool with the rest (I can always build a 1:1--just won't post it  )

wait the only thing i dont like is that we have to make all the wepons

how about this

do a 50% 50%

50% already made such as guns and cannons

50% we make such as rams and spikes

I don't care about purchasing vs handmaking weapons/armor. I thought it would be fun to handmake them and see what everyone comes up with.

Lets just make the weapons/armor up to the builder. How's this?

- curbside is fine (since these cars are mostly "external appearance" driven)

- copying movie cars is fine, just identify it

- cars, pickups, vans, etc... are fine... anything goes.
