This past weekend I ran into the "Mo-Luminum" booth at the Detroit model show. I never heard of them but their stuff is resin and aluminum parts for truck builders.I have been wanting to build a diesel powered rat rod for a couple years and saw this is an opportunity to get an engine and transmission. I opened the engine bag today and realized how much trouble I have gotten myself into with his engine. There are 30 very nicely cast and flash free parts to this kit...but...I have absolutely no idea how it goes together. There are no instructions as I suppose most of these are purchased by truck modelers who know what they are working with. My knowledge of Diesel engines is absolutely non-existent. does anyone know if there is some sort of reference material I can find that will help with this assembly of this beast?

I haven't seen a 5.9 from them, can you post a picture of what you have?

No I don't know how to post. I was thinking that he must have used an existing kit engine as his master and hoping to gain access to those assembly plans for help. The best I can do is email you a photo of the parts. The seller said this is the engine used in the current generation of Mopar pickups if that helps at all.

If it's the current Dodge engine it's a Cummins 6.7 common rail motor. They stopped using the 5.9 Cummins several years ago. There are two different varieties of the 5.9, the original 12 valve and a more modern 24 valve and there are differences mainly in the head and valve covers between the two.

I’d post this in the truckstop section, you’ll get a lot more views from the truck builders, and I’m sure they’ll have more info for you.

As helpful as all this is you have to remember that other than the engine block, oil pan, turbos and pulleys is I have no idea what any what any of the rest of these mostly tiny parts are or where they need to go. My total knowledge of diesel engines is limited to what the exhaust smells like!

My search effort here is focused on my belief that this engine kit is most likely based on an existing model truck kit that should have a set of assembly plans. Those plans are what I need.

If you emailed Jamie at Moluminum jlrahmo@aol.com I bet he’d point you in the right direction. He is a great guy, and he’s very helpful.
