1969 F-100 Custom Cab

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have began (again) a stalled project. This is the Moebius F-100. So far I have done a flip in the rear so the axle is over the springs. Up front I am still fighting with the I-beams and getting it to sit right.

Tonight I just raised the bed floor instead of just putting a cover over the C notch. Hope you enjoy. I still have to finish it up, trying to simulate bare sheet metal.

You're off to a good start on this build. A thought on the front suspension challenges. Look at how the 1:1 Ford trucks with the twin I beams where lowered.. The ends of the spindles were extended in much the same manor as the early I beam front axels.

I looked around and saw some stuff, but my kit parts were not lining up right and I was interested in some scratch building so I went ahead and cut the I beams off for control arms. Maybe on the next one I’ll take more care with the I beams.

Here is an update for you all. No more I beams, no more fender wells. I have a lot more to do on the front suspension. As now it doesn’t look great. I have also started building front tubs, since the wheels were hitting the stock ones. 2CF91A86-D3C2-4425-B1DF-347629402698.thumb.jpeg.08ae9f5a2e37f78b728e656308abcd03.jpegFD4D7959-1215-4679-90E5-410E79C33351.thumb.jpeg.913ccf49a57513006274950e8d2c57f0.jpeg7172A1B3-85D3-4665-BEC5-63F802D5D098.thumb.jpeg.3e7715a7d2fecc79130e6b583d42595c.jpeg87D1368E-4462-4793-B9D6-E70710121BB2.thumb.jpeg.dfd14d311a8ef8dd71a14be5e6bea251.jpeg

Nice job never hurts cutting out the offending plastic ! That's how the "pros " do it

Really like the way you covered the box

Thanks! Here it is finished. The tailgate will top it off. I need to decide if it should open or not..7AD5F305-A2C8-4DE9-B267-022CA85031A4.thumb.jpeg.7661a9c5b7d9a15b9a36da078e7098c2.jpeg

Here is the update on the front tubs. I’ll still need to fabricate 2 more pieces per side as well as a battery tray. I really like how they turned out. If you look closely, you will see how they are notched to fit the firewall. It is a tight fit, I think the small gaps will be filled in nicely with primer as well as a thin putty. They will sit flush with the top of the fenders.

Going the new direction on the front suspension is a far better idea. Great job on the inner fenders and bed.

I agree, much easier and cleaner. Thank you for the kind words!

First, thanks for the interest in this build. This kit is a blast to put together and I’m enjoying the scratch building. Here is our update tonight.

First I got the top of the tubs set in place, glued, and puttied. No going back now (I hope)! 97698B39-CB8D-42B8-98A3-9AEE72DB77FB.thumb.jpeg.e82a604eca2387c8cc8051964ced4850.jpeg

Next, I decided that the inline 6 needed some boost. The turbo is from the CAT D8 kit that I have for parts. I’ll clean it up some and make it look more authentic. Plumbing this will be fun.CE655DCB-4315-4D56-8C57-204CCA2834E5.thumb.jpeg.2cd64ddd5dc0ffecd0f2078708d073f8.jpeg

Here I already started to work on the exhaust for the turbo. It will come down out of the stock manifold, towards the back of the engine, then up to the turbo. The turbo will be where the red is.  The putty is to clean up the seams and make it look like one pipe.

Last we have the crossmember I made to replace the stock one. Still need to put motor mounts on and place it in its final spot. 906D6FA7-3D81-47AF-9508-FC50F3F44ABC.thumb.jpeg.ff70cebf17286de177a92315d7c0401e.jpeg
