disconovaman Posted August 5, 2023 Author Posted August 5, 2023 Hard to believe it's been 5 years...??? I stalled on the orange Z28 and over the past few years I've tossed the painted body on and off the bench... it kinda need repainted now. At the moment it's MIA also. I'm trying to reboot the thread because I'm declaring my entry for the CBR anything goes community build soon. More than likely I'll use this kit because there's not much time left in the challenge and I can build this car quickly and practically with my eyes closed. I'm undecided which one I'll build maybe the 4x4 or perhaps a prostreet kit to add to my tips and tricks section on how to correctly tub out this kit. I learned from an article in the April 92 installment of Plastic Fanatic magazine. ? who's ready to see the progress continue? I need to get back in the saddle again, been in a slump latley. 1
deuces wild Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Yeah, I'd love to see a pro/tub 69 Camaro....?? 1
disconovaman Posted August 7, 2023 Author Posted August 7, 2023 This was a radical build for the times, It features the chassis from the Dobberton Pontiac with 4 Firestone tires spliced together to complete the extreme tubbed look! 2
disconovaman Posted August 7, 2023 Author Posted August 7, 2023 Ok I'm back with a great tip (not my idea) that I learned way back in the 1900's ? in a magazine article from 1992 kids. ? This is the best (IMO) tubbed chassis swap for the Revell 69 Camaros. This tubbed back half is from the 66 Nova Chevy II Pro-street from AMT. The pictures kinda tell the story so I won't bore you with any long winded explaining. Basically cutting out the two chassis plates to match each other. Then trim the sides and back to fit the Camaro body and there you have it. One tip with the marriage of the two parts is to trim each end on the Nova tubs flat so the frame rails rest on the tubs also you'll have glue points. Tape or styrene stock can be added to the topside for added strength. Here are some examples of the finished project, I hope this helps anyone wanting to prostreet your own 69 Revell Camaro! Have Fun!!! 2
atomicholiday Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Very cool project! I built three of these when I was a kid. Believe it or not, the orange car is my all time favorite kit. Best of luck with the builds. Looking forward to seeing your progress.? 2
disconovaman Posted August 16, 2023 Author Posted August 16, 2023 So in keeping with the theme here, I got a wild hair a while back to sell off some of my stalled builds to a buddy of mine. Among them were several Revell Camaros. He had never built the Revell 69 Camaro before. Here's some of my stalled projects finished by him. Tip/Advice of the day, don't sell your stalled projects because you'll just want them back afterwards. ?? 2
disconovaman Posted August 16, 2023 Author Posted August 16, 2023 Next up to finish is the Orange Z28 in the series... as I mentioned before the paint is a little nicked up here and there but I think I can touch it it up and hopefully clear coat will cover up the boo boos. Paint is Hemi Orange, I really like this color. Still on the fence on the interior darker brown is shown on the boxart so I may have to paint another interior. The Monogram boxart shown is pretty close to the Hemi Orange.
disconovaman Posted December 19, 2023 Author Posted December 19, 2023 (edited) Here's another 69 Camaro from the Boxart series finished. It represents the first Revell 69 I built in 1991. I built this one because it was the dawning of a new era and this kit replaced the Monogram kit, for alot of builders I'd imagine. This is why I had the idea to recreate all those Monogram boxes in the first place. When Revell announced they had plans of releasing another version of the Classic Revell 69 Camaro. I had hoped they would offer a Street Machine option and maybe (with decals) a call back to some of those Monogram kits. Instead we got another stock option car (SS with new-ish parts). I still have hopes that someday they will design a boxart with cool graphics and custom wheels. Anyways, I'm dedicated to finishing the last two cars in the Monogram line as promised in the opening of the thread. I still have the Orange Z28 to finish and the 4X4 to build. Check back for updates as I'm jumping into action on those soon. Edited December 19, 2023 by disconovaman
