CountryJoe Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 (edited) Gentlemen, Since I've probably already killed this kit - I've lowered, lengthened and widened a 1:25 '49 Merc... now I wanna see it its possible to make it a convertible. Does any one out there know of a top that'll work on this? Any tips/advice would also be more than welcome... hopefully I'm not the first one to ever think of this. Ace-Garageguy Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 (edited) AMT '51 Chevy Bel Air comes with an up-top that's an excellent starting point. I just checked both kits. It'll work. Definitely. Well...depending on you. Edited January 21, 2019 by Ace-Garageguy
TarheelRick Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 The 50 Ford Convertible also has an uptop. Some of the reissue kits also have a Carson top or a Deville half-top and a chopped windshield.
Ramfins59 Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 Norm Veber of Replicas & Miniatures Co. of MD makes a Custom '49 Merc convertible kit (body, custom interior pieces) and a custom Carson Top for it. You can contact him at ReplMinCoMD@AOL.com
CountryJoe Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 Ramfins59: Thanks Richard... I think the Carson Top is exactly what i'm looking for, it has that very sleek look that I want to apply to the build.
misterNNL Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 I modified the Carson top from the AMT '50 Ford kit many years ago. I chopped it to fit the chopped Mercury convertible windshield on my project car. You might want to consider doing that for yours.
