Jay Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Started this the other night. New Revell Ford Fusion kit with Powerslide decals. The car is flat black so I used Tamiya rubber black. The skirts were shot with Aztec neon green. I’ve been carefully cutting away the excess carrier film to minimize silvering of the decals.
yellowsportwagon Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Can I give you a piece of advice? Next time you want to decal a flat car put gloss clear on it. Then decals. Then flat clear over all of it. The decal film will disappear better because decals stick better to smooth glossy surfaces.

I understand that, but the decals on the real car are glossy and that’s the effect I want. If I dull coat over the decals I lose the gloss. I’ve been at this a long time... I know what I’m doing. yellowsportwagon Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Ok I see that’s a wierd situation to have to deal with.
Jay Posted January 28, 2019 Author Posted January 28, 2019 Decals are all done. I was able to get them over the flat finish with minimal silvering.
MarkJ Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Are you going to clear it with dullcote? Or just not clear it at all?
yellowsportwagon Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Those laid down nice especially for going over flat. Nice job

Jim N Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 Looks real good. Applying decals over a flat paint is a tall order.
Jay Posted January 30, 2019 Author Posted January 30, 2019 Wheels are done... I also got the glass installed in the body for a quick mock up.
Gt fan Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Looks good Jay... The NATO black by Tamiya is a good flat color to work with as well. Used it on a flat based Mercedes.
bbowser Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Coming along nicely! I find the trend towards flat black race cars a little strange, but it's probably just me.
Jay Posted March 11, 2019 Author Posted March 11, 2019 Got the chassis done and the final stance dialed in... should be done in the next night or two.
GoatGuy Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Looks really good. How do you get the red stripe on the wheels ?

I prime and paint the wheel, then I use a Xacto blade and carefully scrape away the paint/primer down to the bare plastic. I then use either a yellow or red Sharpie to color the stripe in.
GoatGuy Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 Sounds good, and a Sharpie's ink is longer lasting than most markers. There's got to be a way to mount a wheel on a lathe or something so it could be scraped at a consistent spot on the wheel.
Heartattaq Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 an absolutely beautiful job on the tires and rims
