SfanGoch Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Okay, let me clarify. Which of the parts pictured have the original chrome plating by the kit manufacturer? The lucky schlub what guesses correctly receives absolutely nothing except the knowledge that he possesses some very sharp MK1 eyeballs.
Can-Con Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 My answer depends,, IF the replated parts were redone by a plater, I'd say 1 and 3 are original and 2 and 4 are replated by a pro. If the replated parts were redone with Alclad or one of the other home plating methods then I'd say that 1 and 3 are redone ans 2 and 4 are original.
SfanGoch Posted February 25, 2019 Author Posted February 25, 2019 Ah, you almost got it, Steve. 2 & 4 are the originals. Since just about all of my stuff is packed in preparation for the move next week, I had the dechromed front grille (No.1) and rear bumper )No.3) from my '60 Desoto salvage project in a container and an almost used up sheet of BMF still waiting to get tossed into a box. So, I wanted to see how well BMF would work on some compound curves and multi-recessed details. I guess it works pretty well, huh?
peteski Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 I see that 1 and 3 have that "slightly warm" golden tone that the original chrome BMF foil has. You did an excellent job on these parts. Something that you would never be able to achieve using the BMF's ultra bright chrome foil.
