Thanks, David. Good catch. Yeah, the headlight area and front and rear pans still need some work yet. After that, the body should be ready for another coat of primer and paint prep.

I'm really not trying to pick on you, but. The decals look old and "Yellowed" and these can even sometimes come apart due to their age. If you haven't dealt with this problem in the past there are suggestions on the forum about just that problem. A lot of builders with far more skills than myself have offered information on how they have overcome this in the past. You might want to look at what others have done for suggestions. There maybe some decal makers that also offer reproductions. I just didn't want you to put all your energy in a great paint job and then have the decals ruin everything. This is a model of a unique car and it's relationship to a special event so I'm glad to see what you're doing here.

No worries at all. You are completely fine. I actually appreciate the information. One thing I really don't want to do, as you said, is put together a great build and have the decals either ruin it, or break before I can apply them. Thank you very much for the heads-up and info.

Assuming the decals do not break apart (you may try using a sealant) what I do with yellowed decals is to try and trim as close a possible to the art work which ould mean cutting it into part.  Typically it it's the surrounding film that yellows so you may test one when you are ready and see how it goes.

I had an idea for the decals. What if I hang the decal sheet in a window for a bit, coat them with Micro Liquid Decal Film, and then still cut as close as I can to the decals before applying them. Would this method work?

That is worth a try.  I have seen much worse.  I have seen them yellow sometime after they are applied IF the excess is not trimmed.

Thank you! Some of those builds have been stalled from about 25 years ago. I thought it would be nice to finally finish them.

Only 25 years ago? That's not bad at all! I too like what I see here. This will be fun to watch.

I think that would be an excellent idea. I have heard of others who have hung the decals in a window to allow the Sun to bleach the yellow out of the decals. The spray you mentioned also should give added protection for the decals to stay intact.

Started fixing the sink marks behind the headlight and filler spots on the front and rear pans. Got it sanded and washed, now to even it out with some more filler. I also got the last part off of the chassis, so now it's just the pan, no parts on it. Next step is to disassemble the engine and figure out what needs redone.

Well, the engine assembly just doesn't want to come apart. After a couple of hours in the freezer, I only got the alternator off. I'll still keep working with it and try to get it carefully disassembled. The gas cap was cut a little too much off the sprue, so I re-chromed the sides with Molotow Chrome Pen. And, the rims are ready to be detailed.

It's kinda hard to see in pictures, but I put a fresh coat of primer on the interior tub.

There were some parts that needed re-chromed, parts that needed de-chromed, and chrome parts that were painted over. Here they are before being de-chromed

I also got the engine disassembled to my liking, filled the sink marks on the body, and sanded off some broken pins on the frame and front suspension.

Made a good bit of progress since last update. The engine is now down to bare plastic. Pretty much all of the loose parts are sanded and ready for primer. The sink marks on the body are now filled and sanded. And I black-washed the rims and grille. Next step: a whole lotta priming and continued parts prep.

Got a good bit of priming done today. The body work didn't turn out too bad, I'm pretty satisfied with it. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, the radiator was glued onto the wall sideways. Well, I finally got around to fixing it. It should be ready for a coat of primer tomorrow.

Got some more parts sanded and ready for primer. I kinda broke the shifter while sanding the mold lines off, but it looks like a simple fix.

The distributor, exhaust headers, washer fluid bag, and starter spent some time in the Purple Pond. The paint on 'em wasn't too bad, but I still wanted to give them a fresher look. I lost the original starter a while ago, so this one is from the parts bin (Moebius Models F-100 Flareside?).

And, I got some more parts primed and ready for paint. The engine block should be painted black, correct?

Progress on this build has been slow, but sure. I've been getting some parts hand-painted over the last few days. The shifter doesn't look too bad, but the break is kinda noticeable. I've also discovered that painter's tape can come in handy for holding parts while hand-painting them ?

Got some spray painting done. The headers and exhaust system might be a little too shiny, but I think I can dull it down a bit with some dullcote.
