House of 13 Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Fellow earthlings, Can I use the frame from Lindberg's '64 Petty Plymouth and attach Jo-Han's (with a bit of tweek I imagine) '64 Dodge Super Stock body to it, to create Junior Johnson's #3 Dodge, or did Dodge and Plymouth use completely different styles of frames?
Bill J Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Both the 64 Plymouth and the 64 Dodge were unibody cars. The chassis piece from the Linberg Plymouth would be the same basically as the Dodge and should fit although being different kit makers may need some adjustment.
yellowsportwagon Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Both cars were B body Mopars same chassis
House of 13 Posted March 24, 2019 Author Posted March 24, 2019 Much obliged gentlemen! Knowing that I should have a couple of '64 Dodges and Plymouths, somewhere in the stash....to play with, well....
House of 13 Posted March 24, 2019 Author Posted March 24, 2019 As it is, while I've got your attention, what is the difference between the Dodge and Plymouth under that beautiful shell....like the colour of the interior, engine, shock absorbers etc., etc....? Jimmy Pardue's white #54 is on my list! As tempting as his red/white one is, I haven't seen any decals for that one....

The Powerslide sheet had for the red and white version I believe. https://www.mikesdecals.com/jimmy-pardue-1964-belvedere-powerslide-p-153.html
Vietnam Vet67 Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 If I remember right Junior won one of the qualifying races for the Daytona 500 in 1964.

A quick Google search indicates that Dodge had a wide variety of interior options for 1965. The dash is different from the Plymouth, and it looks like the dash was different for every Dodge model. The interior from one of the Polar Lights kits would probably be most accurate.
james460 Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 I built one a long time ago. I think I used the interior from the Plymouth but used the Dodge dash. The Petty interior was used because it has a racing interior and because the Doge Polari's roof is the same as the Belvedere at the base of the c pillar. For the Johan body to fit you will need to do a little trimming. I built the Cotton Owens Dodge driven by David Pearson. There subtle little differences in the location of the trim and gas filler. Most of the Dodges have the gas filler in the recess in the back area above the bumper. But Cotton Owens has the filler above this area in the trunk lid. I found that out after I had placed it in the recessed area below the trunk lid. The Johan back panel and bumper are molded together but the area above the bumper is body color. The tail light treatment can be a little different on each Dodge. I used PPG wheels and tires. It builds into a really nice model with only a little effort. There are a couple of videos of the 64 Daytona 500 on youtube that are worth your while to watch. They have pretty good views of the rear of several Dodges. Good luck.
Vietnam Vet67 Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Junior Johnson and Ray Fox after winning one of the qualifying races for the 1964 Daytona 500.
House of 13 Posted March 27, 2019 Author Posted March 27, 2019 Much obliged gentlemen.... Being that I enjoy using Vallejo Air acrylics, which would be the best match for the Ford Engine Blue that some engines had?
MarkJ Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 You could also do Buck Bakers Southern 500 winner. Its basically the same car.
