At a local flea market recently, I found a stack of old Motor Trend magazines cheap. One was the February 1962 issue.  That was the Car of the Year edition, and the COTY was Buick and its revolutionary new V-6 engine.

Back in the Classified ads, a '36 Dodge panel truck, "looks and runs almost like new," was offered at $895. A '48 Lincoln Continental convertible in "excellent original condition" could be had for $950.

Then this ad caught my eye:

"MODEL CARS - 1/25 scale. Former dealer selling out stock & private collection. AMT, Jo-Han etc. 1949-'60s available. First come, first served."

I'm redacting the name and address.  Oh for a time machine...

I like those ads old mags. The prices and what was the brand new thing, then. Also, notice there are no URL or emails to contact. You had to send in a SASE to receive inventory info or and extra $1 - $5 for a catalog. And sometimes a telephone number.

I used to buy Hemmings Motor Journal in the late 70-80s..About a year ago I looked in one and thought just for chance I'd phone an ad I had circled for a 62 Cadillac..Number worked and the guy still had it..Small world, it wasn't for sale now, he gave it to his grand son who restored it..
