Mike999 Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 At a local flea market recently, I found a stack of old Motor Trend magazines cheap. One was the February 1962 issue. That was the Car of the Year edition, and the COTY was Buick and its revolutionary new V-6 engine. Back in the Classified ads, a '36 Dodge panel truck, "looks and runs almost like new," was offered at $895. A '48 Lincoln Continental convertible in "excellent original condition" could be had for $950. Then this ad caught my eye: "MODEL CARS - 1/25 scale. Former dealer selling out stock & private collection. AMT, Jo-Han etc. 1949-'60s available. First come, first served." I'm redacting the name and address. Oh for a time machine...
Edward Gore Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 I like those ads old mags. The prices and what was the brand new thing, then. Also, notice there are no URL or emails to contact. You had to send in a SASE to receive inventory info or and extra $1 - $5 for a catalog. And sometimes a telephone number.
Richard Bartrop Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 There was a fun short story in Road & Track many years ago, where someone sent an order to an old magazine ad, and got a reply from the 1920s
Scott Colmer Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 I've got a box of Hot Rod from the 70's. You would be amazed at what is for sale in the back and how cheap it is.
moparfarmer Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 I used to buy Hemmings Motor Journal in the late 70-80s..About a year ago I looked in one and thought just for chance I'd phone an ad I had circled for a 62 Cadillac..Number worked and the guy still had it..Small world, it wasn't for sale now, he gave it to his grand son who restored it..
