Top right corner.....click on the envelope. ....dropdown shows messages, click on..."go to inbox", click box beside message you want to delete...should prompt you to delete or cancel.

Another point of interest......

    I have found that I cannot do this at all on my smart phone.....have to do in on my tablet or PC.

On a phone go to the top right corner three lines horizontal go to the envelope drop down the gear as in settings which is on the header of your mailbox and when you drop that menu down ...press   empty
